Inconsistency is a form of negative care ('Marshmallowing') and can manifest as unpredictability in actions, decisions, or emotions, leading to confusion and frustration in others. People often recognise inconsistency in themselves or others when they notice a pattern of saying one thing and doing another, or when their behaviour varies greatly from one situation to another. It can also be recognised when individuals fail to follow through on commitments or change their stance frequently. 1) When have you observed inconsistency in your behaviour or in others? 2) How does inconsistency impact trust in relationships, both personal and professional? 3) What motivates inconsistent behaviour, and how can you address these underlying reasons? Going through all my tear sheets and came across my amazing yet brief time with legendary Joy Division bass player/writer Peter Hook. -worth the read- I was at the Park Plaza all set up and waiting to shoot Sigourney Weaver and Kate Bosworth for Screen International. Note: I do not know who he is at this point, and he came over and sat in the other couch to where I was. He was waiting for a meeting. “Hi I’m Tim, I’m going to shoot a portrait here soon, would it be possible to have you hold this grey card so I can get a quick shot for my color balance?” Just got a new Phase One back for my Maymiya RZPro 6x7 and played it safe. “Sure no problem”, he said, came over to the front couch and I took this first photo, I thanked him and he went back. “So what are you here at Tiff for? I’m Peter Hook, the bass player for Joy Division.” I almost fell over, that’s when it clicked in. “Oh yes! Sorry I did not recognize you... 24 Hour Party People!!” “That movie was a lot of fun but not very accurate, I’m here for the film ‘Control’, much more accurate, I’m the creative consultant.” ‘Control’ is the outstanding feature film directorial debut from brilliant editorial-music photographer Anton Corbijn. I ask Peter. “I have some time, if you have time, can we take a few more? Sure”, Peter said and we chatted about the film, music and had some fun and took about 20 more quick shots. When all was done we shook hands and I thanked him for spending some time with me and my camera. Not knowing who he was and him holding the card just for a test shot, that first photo has such a magical innocence to it. It’s my favourite. Since then I have seen all films/docs Joy Division including Control twice, and the JD documentary that also came out that year and have seen Peter Hook & The Light 3 times. They always put on a powerful 2.5 hr + show. It was an amazing day, after Peter I shot Sigourney & Kate and also shot with Ryan Gosling, who just happened to be walking by after Kate & Sigourney left. I love my job. . Look for these on my site.

Boy Kills World? More like Boy Kills my will to live after seeing this dumpster fire of a movie. It’s weird that this came out near Monkey Man since both are action films with the same revenge plot and have main characters with no proper name and the same tragic backstory, are directorial debuts, were produced by a prominent horror director, and happen to star Sharlto Copley. The one big difference, though, is that this film is barely watchable. It’s trying so hard to be edgy and stylish in its direction but fails in almost every way. Imagine a 13 year old saw Deadpool and some other action movies and wanted to write/make their own. That’s what we get here. Barely any of the humor worked, and I simply did not care about anything going on. Usually, I want to see movies to the very end even if they’re bad, but I seriously considered walking out several times. Somewhat luckily, there is a late reveal that made me slightly boost my score since it presents a much more interesting version of the story we got. It was, however, immediately followed by some iffy character decisions that made little sense. Overall, this is one of the worst movies I’ve seen this year. Boy, did this movie absolutely suck!

3/3 Nearly forty years after I took these photos of Eric Stoltz, I'm forced to admit that this was actually a pretty successful shoot, though I don't remember thinking it was at the time. There's certainly a range of poses and expressions, and one good straight portrait in a simple style that I would have tried to achieve if I shot it today. I can't tell you just who I might have shot these for, or who sponsored my accreditation at the 1988 Toronto film festival - a very busy one, judging by the negatives in my files. What I know is that this is the first time most of these shots have been published anywhere - a record of my work just when my apprenticeship had ended and I was obliged to really compete as a professional photographer, just three years after I bought my first camera. Though who I was competing with is as unclear to me now as it was then. . 2/3 What I do know was that Eric Stoltz was in a playful mood when I photographed him in a suite at the Park Plaza Hotel, throwing poses and spoofing ham actor cliches for my camera while I shot him in a bit of flat window light, either in a chair or at a table I'd dragged into the frame. I'd had to deal with a mugging subject a few months earlier when I photographed singer Bobby McFerrin, but for some reason I was able to relax a bit more with Stoltz; perhaps I was learning to roll a bit more with whatever my subjects brought to a shoot. Nearly four decades later, I'm able to find a lot of worthwhile frames in the half roll of Tri-X I shot with Stoltz that day. Maybe it was simply the dynamic of two young men goofing around with a camera. (I was 24 when I took these; Stoltz just a few weeks shy of 27. The recklessness of these shots is a quality I rarely if ever aim for when taking portraits today.) . 1/3 Eric Stoltz had his breakthrough three years before I photographed him, winning a Golden Globe nomination despite performing under a thick facial prosthetic in Mask. Around the same time he was replaced by Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly in Back to the Future, apparently for taking the role a lot darker than director Robert Zemeckis wanted. While being somewhat adjacent to the Hollywood Brat Pack, he had a reputation for being a more serious kind of actor, and when I photographed him at the film festival in Toronto in 1988, he was part of a cast that included Alfred Molina, Camilla Søeberg and Simon Callow in Yugoslav director Dusan Makavejev's Manifesto. Stoltz also played poet Percy Bysshe Shelley opposite Alice Krige's Mary Wollstonecraft in Haunted Summer that year; he might have been at the festival to publicize that as well, but I really can't be sure decades later. (Neither film is talked about much these days in any case.) .
