Do you recognise her? This is the beautiful Vianne, not only Juliette Binoche in Chocolat, but this incredible little village, 20 minutes from us, which was the inspiration for her name. It is actually our Wednesday coffee ☕️ stop on the French Seasonal Cooking Course, and also our photo stop on our way to the Chocolaterie 🍫, on the French Patisserie Course. The beautiful bastide of Vianne was built between the 12th and the 13th century and is one of the best preserved medieval fortresses of the area. Market visit on the Mixed Cooking & Patisserie Course 🍓🫛🥕🥬🥖 This was 13th March, the spring produce had just appeared. We were still missing the asparagus though. Lavardac has the best market. I love taking my guests there so they can see what an authentic French market is. No touristy gimmick, just a place for fresh local produce, as well as a strong cultural community get-together. The perfect occasion to see your neighbours and friends, which is crucial for a lot of our elderly who live alone. Friendly faces, smiles, kind words exchanged, colourful stalls, fantastic smells, and... rabbits! 🐰 Markets are an education. They are where I learned to shop for food with my grandma. Where I learned how to choose my ingredients, may it be poultry, vegetables, or fruit. What to look for in terms of freshness and ripeness, the right look, the right feel, the right smell, the right heaviness..
