Even on my third viewing (in less than a month!) the brilliance of the wickedly talented writer/performer/comedic gem Cole Escola continues to amaze. True, I know which jokes are coming… and yet… they still make me laugh!! The entire cast is top-notch, and they work beautifully together to bring to life an unforgettable romp that will have you falling out of any seat at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. I have sat in the last row of the mezzanine, the last row of the orchestra and last night, third row center orchestra, and can tell you any seat that gets you into the room where it happens is worth it. Danny and the Deep Blue Sea closed a little over two weeks ago. It opened November 13th and closed January 13th; and I was lucky enough to see it THREE times. It was an experience like no other and one that I will never, ever forget. Aubrey and Chris are magnificent. These photos are from my second trip to see the show. I’m so glad that I can say I was there to see Aubrey make her stage debut, that I was there to see her bring Roberta to life; so beautifully and authentically at that. She was so stunning on that stage, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, somewhere that will always hold a special place in my heart. We started our day yesterday where we left off the day before, at Union Square. Such a beautiful day, we walked along Broadway, stopping in shops and enjoying the views of the Empire State Building. In Midtown, Ciara took us to the Ripley Grier Studios, her home last October when she attended the ISTA IB Theatre program with her school. We followed the lights to Times Square, where confetti from New Year’s Eve still fluttered in the air and blew into the shops and cafes. Back in Midtown, The Poster House was a fabulous place to spend an hour and admire commercial design posters from the Art Deco era, before heading back to the hotel to get ready for the big event of the day. The impetus for the trip to NYC was Aubrey Plaza’s off-Broadway debut in “Danny and the Deep Blue Sea” at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Aubrey is Ciara’s absolute favourite actress and the performance lining up with Ciara’s birthday seemed perfect. The play was incredible - darkly funny and intense, and Aubrey and her co-star Christopher Abbot were phenomenal. The icing on the cake was Ciara getting to meet her idol, Aubrey, after the show!
