2023 - the year of exploration! At the very beginning of this year I hit a bit of a rut with my art. I was feeling pretty uninspired, burnt out, and a little distracted by how I felt my work was being received on social media… which I think we all unknowingly slip into from time to time when sharing our work - even though it sucks to admit, it’s part this system we are taking part in. But thanks to that slump I fell into, I became motivated to break out of it! I spent a month or two just experimenting and drawing only what I felt like drawing, how I felt like drawing it, when I felt like drawing, not sharing much and boom suddenly I was more inspired then I had been in a long time. Since then I’ve tried to continue on the track of experimentation, drawing what excites me and not focusing much on how anything performed when I shared it. Just wanted to put stuff out into the world and be grateful for what ever happened to come back, then move on to the next artwork which is what truly matters to me. I have been much more happy and everything relating to my art seemed to progress much more naturally this way :) Currently, I’m working on finishing up my first graphic novel… that I’ve been working on in the shadows for a long time now. The sketch version is complete just lining, coloring, and editing now. Working on this book has been one of the biggest and most fulfilling things I’ve worked on in my life :) I can’t wait to share details about it with you all - hopefully in this coming year! Puppy Cow & The Crow Knight Jouster Do you ever feel like your art is stagnating a little and you want to explore more, and then you think your exploring but you actually realize your just thinly veiling you trying to do stuff to make your art process more efficient so you can pump more out or trying to think of stuff to make it more appealing for others as “exploring”? Then you realize this and don’t know what to do for a while and you feel burnout and then you just stop drawing much all together for like a month but than you start to feeling guilty that your not drawing enough because creating art is your dream, so you just decide you’re gonna do some drawings for fun and do whatever you want and not really care how it comes out, but then in doing that you end up actually exploring and just having fun with it, are realize that feeling is what got you into drawing and sharing your drawings in the first place and that you shouldn’t over think it and just draw or make stuff in whatever way makes you excited to do it? No? Me either.
