For @michaelmato Michael finally retired his last Texican, so he ordered another one with the same shape and dimensions. This time he wanted a stealthy approach a la Spinal Tap's Black Album. So I did it with flat black paint and printed the graphic in black ink. A couple years ago, I was doing at least one Andy Anderson shape a week. This is the first one in a while. He'll be in Albuquerque for Ditch Slap. His previous Texican deck I mailed to Albuquerque, where he picked it up, set it up, and hit the ditches immediately after. That's a long trek from New York for some ditches, but if you've been there, you know it's worth it. You literally have to try NOT to find a killer ditch in that town. When I was there, I just drove around and found a few that a couple of friends, who had sent me locations, didn't know of. It's bonkers there in the best of ways! We wound up talking about how we had worked together, dialing in his shape and dimensions. It's a fun and interesting process to do with skaters. I've done the Vader graphic for him in a couple of full dips, as the neon colors I had on hand were enough to knock out his order at the time. This time I did what I'd call a "half-dip". Normally I mask off the rails and wheel wells, leaving them natural wood tones, and paint the exposed belly of the boards. This time I just masked the top of the board. The painted rails and wells give a nice contrast to the natural wood grained topside. For Dave Smithers The ever popular Tex Gibson shape I was very stoked Dave reached out to me for a board. When I was in elementary school, he was skating pools in Houston. The first pool I ever skated was in 85, the public diving pool on Hammerly in Spring Branch on Houston's west side. My friend Kit had an off-campus class directly across the street with Dave Reul. One day, he said "bring your board tomorrow and jump on the Career Center bus". The next day I did. The bus driver didn't recognize me and I said I was a new student lol When we got to the Career Center, Reul met up with us. We ran across the street, jumped the fence, and skated for the 2 class periods Kit and Dave were supposed to be in auto mechanics. Hopped on the bus and went back to our normal campus. I got in school suspension, for skipping 2 classes, which was fine with me. Back then the city would drain the public pools every year. For Will Nolan A Santa Cruz Tom Knox inspired shape. Will happened to cross paths with @mayor.black3 and dug what he saw, so he messaged me for a board. Craziest part of our whole interaction was the mail delay. I mailed his board on March 5th. Last week, I filed for a missing mail search, and was preparing to make Will another board. This Monday, April 1st, I was getting my receipts and things in order to file a lost mail claim with USPS when I received a message from Will. The eagle had landed!!! In the 8 years I've been doing Texican Skateboards, I'd only had one issue with a board being tied up/lost in the mail. It was as the pandemic had just really gone into full gear, and intended for @alain__scott in Switzerland. Switzerland wasn't accepting any international parcels for a bit and it sat, then was lost, then found and delivered. At the beginning of this year, the Houston USPS had become ensnared with poor upgrade planning, and mail was being lost and piling up. I was fortunate that the majority of orders made it through without incident. However, Will's and one to McKinney TX were 2 orders I was about to file lost mail claims when they were delivered. Hopefully, everything is straightened out now with the Houston USPS as a package to rural Montana made it without issue. Thank you for your patience and undeestanding Will. Full disclosure - I designed my deep spoon nosed concave with tritail mold to make me happy. And it stokes me to no end so many enjoy it as well. I also know, it's not everyone's cup of tea. Everyone has different tastes and preferences. I also designed my mellower number 2 spoon as something I'd enjoy barging a parking garage or cruising around upon. If I have more than one board at a time, they're different concaves with identical dimensions. Turns out some people really dig it for everything from parks to streets. Two-fer Texican Tuesday With the new shop, I've been shaping a few boards at random times of the week, so boards are at different stages of production and I've just been sending out topside pix as they reach that stage. But here's 2 I did for @sk8punk77 and I can still affably allow alliteration after all. The famous Tex Gibson shape. I have made LOTS of these through the years. However, out of respect for @gibotex I will not make them in the exact dimensions of his Mosel. Too many dirt bags out there do that crap, and one I hope gets what he's due for ripping off Jeff Phillips' namesake. The blue was John Zander's original order.
