These heroes work hard every day, not only preparing and serving nutritious meals for lunch AND breakfast, but also staying late to prepare and serve afternoon snacks to our S.P.A.C.E. students! 🍳🍌🍊🍽️🥪🥗🌭 But that's not all! They do so much more! 💪They also open milk cartons, fruit snack pouches, and string cheeses! They peel oranges, open water bottles, and settle lively debates. 🌟TGIF, Friends! 🌟 Can you believe it’s already time for another “Student Art Monthly Spotlight” !? 🎨🧑 💕Last month, our art spotlight received SO MUCH LOVE, I am VERY excited to share it for April! 💕 👀 Third grade is in the spotlight this month with their mixed media projects inspired by Hokusai's “The Great Wave of Kanagawa.” We started this lesson with our artful thinking routines and great discussions about what we see, what we think and what we wonder as we look at this awesome artwork. These conversations led us into learning a little about Japan, Mount Fuji, living and fishing in the artist's time, and so many other great topics. We also touched on many of the elements of art used in the work like line, color, shape, etc. The focus for this lesson was space and movement. Students spent some time creating space in their sketches by using overlapping and size. Then they sketched light lines to show the movement of the water sometimes flowing horizontally but also building diagonally and vertically into tall, crashing waves. We used watercolor for our warm colored sky and different cool colored markers to show the movement of our water. Finally, we added texture with white paint for the whitecaps and foam. A visit to the splatter box (everyone's favorite) for some splashes and sprays and our Hokusai inspired masterpieces were complete! 🌊🤩🌊How STUNNING are these pieces?!?
