Check out this sophisticated update to a vintage pedestal table! 🌲 We started by removing all of the old orangey finish from using our @bahcotools carbide scraper. The pine wood underneath was very soft, so we had to do a lot of hand sanding to reshape and even out the surface. 🖌️ Next, we used @minwaxcanada water-based pre-stain to condition the wood & prevent uneven staining. Finally, we applied multiple coats of @saman_stain one-step wood stain & varnish, and sealed with @fusionmineralpaint natural Stain & Finishing Oil. ✨ Finally, we went sanded with Fusion's hemp oil for a buttery smooth finish! I’ve gotten questions about this table recently on both IG and FB, so I’m resharing this flip from 2021! Here’s how I did it: 1. Sanded everything down. At the time I did 60 grit, 120 grit, then 220 grit. Now I would strip with stripwell QCS first (you can use code “CochranCollective10” for 10% off on Stripwell.com) then I would sand with 120 grit, then 220. 2. Vacuum/clean and wiped down with a tack cloth to remove dust 3. Applied a paint wash with probably 50% water and 50% tan paint. I used Natural Linen by ColorPlace from walmart but I think it’s made by Glidden now. Any flat tan or beige paint will work, but test the paint wash in a small area to make sure you like the color! If it’s too dark, add some flat white paint to your wash. I did not wipe it off like a traditional paint wash, I applied with a foam brush and left it to dry. 4. After the paint wash was dry, I hand sanded lightly with 220 grit and wiped with a tack cloth. 5. Sealed with minwaxusa Clear Ultra Flat Polycrylic. I think I did 3 coats on the bottom parts and 5 coats on the top. Slowly, but surely, I’m getting my home in order and furnished. As of last week, every box has been unpacked and every bag has been gone through, and the items in them have been stored, put in a donation pile, or trashed. It feels great! While I had purchased a table for my dining room from my favorite restore, I had another style my heart longed to own. The table I bought was half priced and dirt cheap, so I bought to have a table. What I dreamed of was a round, pedestal table, with a leaf option for when guests come to visit. I would scan Facebook Marketplace and a similar site for my town. I was thrilled when I saw this table and chairs on the local marketplace. We all know it’s one thing to see an image and like it, and another to experience it in person. My truck, a friend, and I made the 20 minute trek to check it out. It was lovely! Sturdy, wide bottomed chairs with thick, comfortable cushions. I love the light colored base and chairs with the dark wood grained tabletop. I have decided to store the leaf, wrapped well to prevent damage, and have the round table for everyday. It makes my heart feel happy and gives my dining room a bright essence. You want to know the best part?
