[ De la pintura a la escritura y sus múltiples conexiones. Hace varios años, gracias a uno de los libros dentro de mi colección sobre Pablo Picasso, fue como nació mi interés por conocer más a fondo y acercarme al mundo de la escritora y coleccionista de arte, Gertrude Stein. Stein ayudó a lanzar las carreras de los pintores Henri Matisse, Juan Gris y Pablo Picasso. Lo que estos creadores lograron en las artes visuales, Stein lo intentó en su escritura. Rechazó la escritura lineal del siglo XIX para una literatura espacial, orientada a procesos, específicamente del siglo XX. La percepción del espacio y la composición en su escritura se asemejan al cubismo. Stein fue un ejemplo de un nuevo sentido del orden. Un ejemplo puro de abstracción. Hoy tuve la fortuna de encontrarme con la primera edición (1936. Random House) de “The geographical history of America or the relation of human nature to human mind” de Stein. I had the privilege of taking part in Art in Bloom at the Springfield Art Museum. Invited designers had the opportunity to select an artwork to inspire their garment designs. Here’s my narrative about my design and the concept inspired by the piece I chose: As a mother, the art deeply resonated with me, portraying the multifaceted nature of womanhood, encompassing strength and the profound ability to create life. The flowing red organza, reminiscent of her spilled blood, serves as a homage to fertility. Women, I believe, embody a remarkable duality—simultaneously strong and nurturing. I tried to portray in this intricate balance: the unyielding toughness embodied by the sleek black leather juxtaposed with the gentle softness of the organza. It’s a visual representation of the inherent complexity of femininity, where resilience and vulnerability intertwine. The gown embodies various facets of femininity, depending on the viewer’s position. From one angle, only the toughness of the leather is evident, while from another, only the softness of the organza is apparent. However, when viewed head-on, both elements merge seamlessly, illustrating the intricate interplay between toughness and tenderness that defines the essence of womanhood. The gown represents the complexities of women, while also celebrating their resilience, compassion, and innate ability to create life.
