I have 2 Gaiac (Guaiacwood) perfumes in my collection. GAIAC from @avrilfragrances - ultra creamy, light woody scent with a touch of rice and green tea. It's a botanical perfume so the parfum in the formula is authentic botanical extracts. It's richer than the Le Labo one. GAIAC from Le Labo - lighter scent. I could sense the alcohol in it when they first mixed the perfume for me in Washington, USA. The alcohol kinda went away after a month or so. There is more white musk in this. In the book The Alphabet Versus the Goddess, that I so often share, author Leonard Schlain mentions how "the lands that honored the Goddess were agricultural and, by necessity, settled." I recently received a bottle of infused jasmine sambac jojoba oil that I started while visiting my mom in Spring, and the perfumers garden. The infusion is pure heaven, re-minding us of the value of growing flowers and a Goddess oriented culture where agriculture, harmony and peace were valued. What makes a good parfum? There are two things I find important in a parfum and that's concentration, and with that concentration there needs to be quality fragrance. An eau de parfum must be between 30-35% essential oils alone for it's aroma to linger long enough to carry substance on the skin as you would with a normal perfume. The reason why I do not make "eau de toilette" perfumes is because their concentration is only about 15%-20%, and because I do not fill my perfumes with chemical enhancers, a more concentrated scent is essential. The better the quality the essential oil is, the more chance you have of a natural perfume inflating rather than deflating in it's note projection, ie spicy, floral, herbal and woody notes. Did you know that the term Eau de Toilet stems from the French toil, meaning "a fine cloth cover on the dressing table for the articles spread upon it;" thence "the articles, collectively, used in dressing" (mirror, bottles, brushes, combs, etc.). Then evolving to “act or process of dressing," especially the dressing and powdering of the hair (1680s); then "a dressing room" (1819). Hence spritzing one self with a scented water in the dressing room.
