So much to update you guys on with my R34 restoration day two! @garage_yoshida moves so fast it's hard to keep up! He started off the day by measuring the chassis, and the report confirms this was an accident free and completely straight chassis. Nissan has a tolerance of 3mm for any measurement point on the chassis and each point was either exactly zeroed or 1mm off. Expect for one on the bottom of the vehicle which was used improperly as a jacking point, which can be fixed super easily. Yoshida-san then drilled out the spot welds on the front shock tower area and also the bracing surrounding it. He then took off the tower to reveal rust hidden underneath. Every single R34 GTR that has driven in the rain has this problem, because most of the seams in that area were not sealed from the factory. The water comes from the tire kicking it up the wheel well and into the shock tower area. Water also gathers from when it runs down the edges of the front windshield when the vehicle is parked outside. Nissan discontinued replacement shock towers and the cowl top, but he has created his own version with high tensile steel with many more spot welds than the stock version. Once installed every seam will be sealed so this chassis can last a lifetime. Since I bought all new badges I'm going to take these home with me and display them on my shelf! The car is expected to be completed by the end of July. It took Yoshida-san and his wife six and a half hours to completely disassemble my R34 GT-R from a running driving car. Absolutely incredible talent! Tomorrow he is going to drill out the spot welds and remove the shock towers and he's going to replace it with his own reinforced version. He's also going to measure how straight the chassis is with a laser tool. If it's off at all he will bring it back to factory spec. Then he is going to start prepping it for wet blasting! You're looking at the first HKS bolt on turbo kit for the GR86 outside Japan. On the HKS demo car they were able to make 366hp and 294tq. Stock power is 237hp and 190tq based on their tests. That's an increase of 129hp and 104tq. This is on 98 octane Japanese fuel with an Fcon piggy back. I will be running 100 or 102 octane, whatever they have at the track on my GR86. In case you guys are wondering why I'm upgrading from the @hks_usa_inc supercharger kit you can check out my post about those numbers. On the Dyno it made about 60whp over stock and 65tq, so the turbo will be a huge improvement. That's not to say it's a slouch, it keeps up with GR Corollas no problem in a straight line. I posted both dyno charts on the last two slides, sorry the turbo one is in kilowatts. I can finally go wheel to wheel racing! I was super nervous going into this weekend's @drivenasa competition school. I was really worried I wouldn't pass the class. The instructors were absolutely incredible and I learned so much. I can't wait to start racing!!!!!! I'm gonna do a video on this journey and this school so I can let others know what to expect. Massive thanks to @sunbeam.motorsports for installing my @kw_suspension dampers and also my @typesauto LED underglow. If you guys followed along my Hagerty series, you know that I had massive issues with the coilovers that came with the car, they blew out on the highway almost causing an accident. Lucky for me @garage_yoshida had an extra set of used dampers laying around. Unfortunately they were very old and also set up for track use only as they were incredibly stiff. I hate (love) seeing a new track for the first time after hearing the lore from others. The buildup to the actually never correlates. Confidence comes on the other side of trying... My team believes in me. Maybe more than I believe in me at times. What they do is enable me to try new things. Let me try it once, and then I'm.... Wait for it....... off to the races! Something WILL go wrong. When it does, stay calm... Crashing is a part of the sport. The level of severity may change, but the inevitability of it doesn't. How you move on is what sets you apart. My wife is the strongest person by my side... Her unwavering support is humbling and confidence boosting. Being in a commercial and the subject of a docu-series is pretty f*ing neat (show comes out in March/April) The joy I feel helping others getting on track knows no bounds... Starting Just Hands Foundation has been one of my hearts source of happiness... Because it has nothing to do with my happiness, but the happiness of others. The generosity of others knows no bounds... The car world is incredibly caring. I'm humbled by the giving spirit at every turn for Just Hands. What happens off track is just as formative as what happens on track... You prepare so much for just a "little" track time. But the time at track can be the source of so much learning. I say this a lot: it's never lost on me that I am so f'ing fortunate. I take in every day as if I'll never do it again. Thanks to you all. Slowly coming off the high from my first @worldracingleague race at @cota_official . Tons of lessons learned (manual brakes with your arms?), new experiences (endurance racing, new track, new car and driver change), new team (@essesracing was epic) and a group that had my back. It's easy to post these pictures to show the fun, but it's hard for the pictures to convey some real feelings... I don't take any moment for granted. I still can't believe that I get to drive race cars. I am proud of the friends and partners I've made in a short time. I'm terrified before I get behind the wheel. We don't only have new drivers that come to Just Hands. @derekmortland visited us in July at @limerockpark and was one of the first drivers of the new 981 Cayman. Derek is not just an experienced HPDE driver, but he is also an instructor with NASA Great Lakes. He and his wife drove from Ohio to come check off one of his bucket list tracks: LRP. He also has his own fleet of cars, one of which is this converted police cruiser. This would be the coolest thing to see on track vs speeding up behind you on the road to give you a ticket (not that we have ever gotten a ticket .... Ummmm.... Thanks to the wizardry of the @mobilityworks , we have been able to fit BOTH left and right hand controls into the BMW and the Cayman. The Left hand controls are found just as in street cars, to the left of the steering column. The hand controls use a simple push down motion to apply the gas, and a push forwards to brake. The hand controls, built by Mobility Innovations, are popular with many of our drivers due to the exact translation for them between street and track driving. Comfortability and familiarity are both massively important when ensuring that anyone who gets in the car will be able to have quality time on-track. Note that the picture shows a steering knob on the left.
