I couldn’t pass up this golden opportunity when I was invited to participate in this VIP experience to photograph @commerce.court! Shout out to @jgazze @thelandofdustin @mytofd and @commerce.court for hosting us and letting us photograph to our hearts’ content. . I’ve always loved this building for its beautifully coffered gold ceiling, which stands 65 feet at its highest point and uses 715 ounces of gold leaf for its mouldings. I think I’m not alone in thinking this is one stunning building to admire from all angles. . Any of these photos would have worked in monochrome but I left it in all its golden hues to add to the golden opportunity to roam around and admire the details at my own pace. I loved the shadow play created by the late afternoon sun that also added to the beautiful hues and texture within the building. . 【多倫多市中心College Park 百年前曾經計劃興建摩天大樓】 多倫多市中心的College 站，位於Yonge夾College交界的College Park是區內的歷史悠久的建築和著名地標之一。熟悉的商店包括地庫的超市Metro和地面的Winners。但大家又知唔知道，呢座建築背後有令人意想不到的歷史呢？ 原來早在1916年，當時的地主Eaton百貨店創辦人，曾經計劃在該處興建摩天大樓，達到 670 英尺，樓高40層，可以與美國紐約市仍然未建成的洛克菲勒中心媲美。而建築物規模亦非常巨大，南至目前摩天住宅Aura位置，西至777 Bay St商廈。但受到當時美國經濟大蕭條時期影響，最後發展規模大減，並未按照原計劃完工。最後變成只有Eaton百貨，餐廳和一所劇院。而靠近Yonge的位置更只興建了樓高3層的建築物。大廈開幕慶典於 1930 年 10 月 30 日舉行。 到1977年，由於大型商場Eaton Centre建成，發展商將建築物業權出售給新業主。新業主將建築物部分範圍進行改建，包括上蓋增設140,000平方英尺的豪華出租住宅330,000平方英尺的辦公空間和將百貨公司變成120,000 平方英尺的商場，並將該處命名為College Park。到2000至2003年，業主再次為項目進行翻新，重點包括將大廈高層的劇院進行還原工程，並命名為The Carlu。而月底的Doors Open Toronto，該處亦會開放給公眾參觀，大家不要錯過。 雖然大廈外牆有古典裝飾藝術風格，但坦白講，大廈內部保留的範圍卻不太多。公眾範圍見到比較明顯的特色設計，只有升降機大堂，Winners 內部的牆身和位於Yonge街出入口的大樓梯。其餘美食廣場和商場的通道，裝修卻沒有特色。即使2022年曾經再次進行翻新，但完成後感覺也是十分低成本，沒有美感的設計。這也許反映了業主其實並不太重視這座建築。而建築物的另一個特色，就是建築物內部（Planet Fitness位置）仍然保留一條1930年建成，由奧的斯設計的木製扶手電梯。如果大家有在該處健身，可以留意一下。 圖片來源： 圖2：blogTO （2010年4月） 圖3：GWL Realty Advisors 圖8: Adrian.C, SelectVenue 圖9: Greg's Southern Ontario #collegepark #多倫多建築 #torontoarchitecture #多倫多地產 #多倫多歷史 #建築探訪 #建築設計

I suspect this may be a growing segment of the population and I guess there is no reason why you can't do it in style. Maybe this is what the current owner of the home was thinking when he purchased the property in late 2020 and decided to redesign it with the pandemic in full swing. At the time, the house was known as I'ARCA or The Ark, a moniker given to it by the Italian engineer and architect who built the original structure (see picture). We've been designing some very generous and luxurious layouts recently while considering another renovation & retention of an old building which has me revisiting this most beautiful duplex from 2020. The most urban building in the Forest Hill Village. I think the styling here with @manierastyle is emblematic of so much about this build. We've never discussed this out loud, but looking back 4+ years later it's clear that this was the first time we did not have to sacrifice design intent for budget. We've learned so much in the interceding years, but in hindsight this was a real 'levelling up' kind of project. #infillhousing #torontoarchitecture

Chartered by King George IV as King’s College in 1827, the University of Toronto was the first institute of higher education established in Upper Canada (today’s Ontario). It was founded as a religious institution and remained so for more than 20 years. In 1849, the elected assembly of the new Province of Canada decided to rename the college, giving it its current name, and establishing a non-religious branch that they dubbed University College - today one of the several consituent colleges of the University of Toronto. This structure, its first home and flagship building, was completed in 1859. It is an interesting and unique mix of Romanesque, Norman, Byzantine, and Gothic revival styles, all tied together with local grey stone. May is #museummonth, and with this year’s theme of ‘Museums for Education and Research’ we are going back into our archive and spotlighting the dramatic redesign of Toronto’s Museum Station! Signalling the arrival to the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and Gardiner Museum, the station itself is envisioned as a cultural exhibition. Together with curators from these two museums, artifacts were selected from their collections to replicate as part of the station design, initiating the learning and sharing of knowledge before one even enters the museums. The station’s structural columns are designed to reference archeological objects and historical architecture – from Toltec Warriors to the Wuikinuxv First Nation Bear House Post, Osiris Pilasters, to the columns of Beijing’s Forbidden City; while hieroglpyhics taken from a limestone relief in the ROM’s Egyptian collection are used to create the station’s large signage lettering. Did you know there used to be a house on the Osgoode Hall grounds? The Law Society built a cottage for the Osgoode Hall caretaker in 1921. This is the King Edward Hotel. This building was originally built as a low rise structure, opening in 1903. An eighteen storey addition was built to the east of the original building in 1920. This property’s contribution lies in its status as a city-wide landmark, its Edwardian architecture and high quality architectural detailing and its prominent siting on the corner of King Street East and Victoria Street, at the foot of Toronto Street and on the original Court House Reserve of the Town of York. The property also contributes to the historic value of the District through its historic and ongoing association with the King Edward Hotel, and its historic associations with George Gooderham and architect E.J.
