Another set of shirts have come in for Team Mata/Ozog 🔵🟣 Paul had the biggest smile on his face when I interrupted his drum practicing in the ice rink parking lot and took my matching shirt. He also had me try some drumming on his snare and all I gotta say is ugh 😑 We have one more element to nail, but today we laid out our test program for my Adult Gold Pairs test that I need. And soon. ⛸️ Even when I’ve had times of frustration, including this week, Paul is extremely supportive and reminds me that I’ve only been at Pairs for 4 months and that I should be proud of what I’ve accomplished.
Got some new shirts today! Our water bottles even match our shirts. After more than a whole week away from each other for being in show week for last weekend’s @waynewestlandfsc ice show, Paul and I already put in 5-1/2 hours on the ice, with plenty more planned before we lose ice at Mike Modano for the summer after Saturday.

I never stop, do I? Just off the ice from a whole weekend of ice show, not to mention rehearsals all week long, then breaking down the set, and I’m back on the ice only 50% rested jumping back into teaching high school and skating Pairs with Paul. Today we wore our newly printed #detroitdrumlineacademy shirts. Although no one really saw us matching since we had the ice all to ourselves for a whole hour and two littles were in private lessons on the second hour. We’re also enjoying this last week at Westland before the ice comes out for the summer.

Long overdue Adult Sectionals post!⛸️ Thank you to everyone who made me feel so welcomed, loved, and supported for my return to competition❤️ This was my first Sectionals in 4 years and I couldn’t be more proud of myself for getting out there again and placing 15th out of 26 strong skaters in Championship Silver! Because of my many trips to Mexico at the end of last year for a work project, I only had 8 weeks to learn choreography, remember how to jump and spin (after more than a year off from injury), and try to build stamina to make it through this program in time for Sectionals. Thank you to my amazing coaching team @otar_japaridze @angie_japaridze and @lpmarv for believing in me and helping me throw this together in the best way possible at the last minute!❤️ and thank you to my loving fiance @shahvorostovdenis for many 6am sessions playing “fake coach” and pushing me to improve, and to my best friends @dawntrucksess and @lindsey.jovanovski for making the trip to Pittsburgh so much more than just a skating competition!! Here in Columbus, we have an amazing store called FootWorks, run by orthotists that can help fit orthotics and trouble shoot shoe issues. I took my skates in and got fitted for these high arch cork orthotics with a cushion liner, and they’re really helping my foot pain while skating! I do still get a little bit here and there, but to be honest, I think the only thing that will fix that at this point is a wider fitting skate. FINALLY got to check out the Arrowhead Provincial Park ice trail a few days ago! ... Scariest ice I've even been on, lol. Glad I was able to do it - skating past the camp site we were at in October was weird and fun - but probably won't do it again. The photo doesn't even do justice to the ice. It wasn't just ruts, it was weird layers of ice that would crack and sink as you skated over. Very short skate today, nothing worked out. First off, I have no idea where the sun came from, but my sunglasses managed to disappear in the several months(?) since we last saw it. Not great with the ice, lol! My poor eyes. Also ran out of hockey tape. As it turns out, the cheap athletic tape I bought off temu may look cute with my tights, but does SFA all for arch support. Go figure. THEN a ton of people showed up and decided to take over the rink with their crappy behaviour (including multiple people running in shoes??), so we gave up after a few laps. So now we're on the way home, so I can drink a liter of water before going to the hospital to get my guts scanned to see if the cancer is still gone. Yaaay. We started the new year with amazing skaters all reunited in the Orobic Prealps in the cozy village of Piazzatorre. The traditional Winter Camp, but it’s his year we had also athletes coming for World Winter master games in Lombardia. We organized two different camp in order to give the opportunity to the athletes to get ready for this important competition and I will not hide that they had very good results! Round two and three of figuring out new skate *quirks*. I took out the factory arch supports and put in just those air pillow dr scholls insoles, to protect my feet from the skates more than anything. That was FAR better, but still needed some help. So I hockey taped my arches, and that was even more improvement. Still achy, but not catastrophic. I think I'll leave it at this for now and try a couple sessions and see how that goes, before changing anything else. It's been a while since I've been on any skates, so there's probably some degree of just normal foot tantrum going on, rather than flox flare issues. Definitely going to do more strengthening in my feet, though. Long Saturday began with competing Masters Choreographic Artistry at #annarboradultopen before jetting off to Midland for the #michiganbasicskillsseries finals with one of my littles. Walking into the rink I was thinking it’s too early to look good since the sun hasn’t risen yet. Had a lot of compliments on my Sorcerer’s Apprentice program, especially about how fun I was to watch. I did clarify with people that my crash and fall at the very end was intentional. 😆 Although I did not catch myself like I usually do and an elbow bruise may appear. Oops 😅
Skated this morning at the #annarboradultopen First IJS skate with this program and my scores were decent for what I did. I wasn’t shaky leg nervous until I stepped out on the ice for warmup. I landed my second double Salchow in warmup, but still doubted if I could attempt it in my program. My coach was there to tell me no, I have to do it. The ice was so fresh that I fell on a knee slide I do before my second Lutz. 😂 Reading the protocol my coach wants me to change my jumps and restructure where they are. 🙃 Overall I’m proud of what I put out today. ⛸️ Looking at our podium picture our dresses match our medal ribbons. 🤣

Yesterday we had our All American competition with @waynewestlandfsc Skated with two friends in both events. My sister had a vendor table and my little niece came later to see me skate. (At least she doesn’t have a grumpy face this time 😆) Finally got a picture with my coach after noticing this week that in the 2-1/2 years of working with her I had none. In the morning I saw our skate orders and was talking to Laura who’s reaction was “Oh S&;+” 😂 During our warmup I attempted a double Salchow and fear clinched me immediately. I attempted a second time after the 1 minute warning, but it was no use. I never left the ice during my program. My coach also asked me during warmup to do one Axel, instead of my planned Axel-Axel crossover flying camel. Everything else went well and I gave it so much intensity. 🦢 The most intense moment was going into into my second Lutz and I focused on the boards below where the judges were sitting. My second program, with Barbie vs Esmeralda, went really well and I liked how it turned out. (Just confused about the low CJS scores.) I didn’t get a podium picture in my Character outfit, nor one with my newest student who was a Lion in the warmup before mine in Basic 1-6 Character (and earned 1st place of two). My little bearded lady did really well (only skater in Basic 1-6 Emotional and not sure in Basic 4 program with 5 skaters, and exhibition immediately after the competition). My littlest skater competing was very patient waiting with me and the other WWFSC coaches through 3 warmup groups. She earned 2nd place of 2 in Snowplow Sam with Call Me Maybe. Congrats everyone! ⛸️

Минздрав рекомендует.... :) мы сегодня расскажем о рекомендациях по физической активности для взрослых по стандартам Минздрав Рекомендации зависят не от возраста, а от здоровья. - Здоровым людям рекомендовано заниматься физическими упражнениями не менее 4-5 раз в неделю по 20-60 минут. - Аэробная активность должна занимать 150 минут в неделю - это может быть быстрая ходьба - прогулка или занятия спортом. - 75 минут в неделю нужно посвящать силовым упражнениям. Лучше начинать с невысокой нагрузки и постепенно её наращивать. *ВАЖНО учитывать состояние здоровья и перед началом регулярных тренировок, если есть какие-то беспокойства, проконсультироваться с врачом и пройти медицинское обследование Официального списка с рекомендациями по занятиям спортом для более узких возрастных групп нет, но есть рекомендации по развитию координационных способностей и гибкости как можно раньше. Причина тому - ухудшение этих показателей с возрастом. И, чтобы минимизировать травмы,падения во взрослом возрасте, рекомендуют уделять активное внимание не только аэробной нагрузке, но и упражнениям на координацию, баланс и развитие гибкости.

Anyone who has followed me for the short time that I’ve been on this platform knows that I am a huge fan of icoachskating.com. What you don’t know is that I am on this platform BECAUSE of icoachskating.com. After college, I decided to take a break from all social media for many reasons. Fast forward ~10 years. I decided to start skating again and was hungry for any information I could find on figure skating technique. At the expense of sounding overly dramatic, I’ll cut it short and say that my understanding of figure skating went through a renaissance after finding the icoachskating.com platform. The content was so compelling and the practical implications to my own skating so great that I honestly felt that it was borderline unethical NOT to broadcast this information in a more visible way. Welcome to my adult figure skating journey! ⛸️❄️ I’m from North Carolina and I didn’t take my first private lesson until I was 21 years old!! I’ve taken private lessons off and on for 4 years (with 2 years of time total completely away from the rink) Jumps are my favorite, spins are scary, and I’m incredibly directionally challenged! So this has been an interesting journey, thank god for knee & butt pads😂 The rink is the one place I go to feel delicate, graceful and embrace my femininity💗 This is where I find peace, and where I challenge myself.
