Nala & Angel had a girls' day out with my mom and I. We went to TSC (top 2 pictures) for their dog food and things for my mom's chickens. And we saw some baby chicks there, too! Then we went to Home Depot (bottom 3 pictures) for some house supplies and some walking around. They both were good girls. Some new noises they heard and lots of new people they meet. I'm aware their harnesses are not straight. As soon as I took their pictures, they pulled some and made them go sideways as I had them clipped in the front. Brushing teeth 🪥 Did you know brushing your dog's teeth is important? Brushing their teeth can be seen in many ways, shapes and forms. There is no wrong way for cleaning your dogs teeth. Brushing your dogs teeth is better than not brushing them at all. Here are a few ways: 1. Feeding raw meaty bones appropriate for their size 2. Dog safe toothpaste and toothbrush 3. Dental chews 4. A dental at your veterinarian office We have used all the above ways on our pack. But I find brushing their teeth with toothpaste and a toothbrush has been the best way for our pack. We do use dental chews and raw meaty bones from time to time. I have also got a dental done on Hunter before but I prefer not to put them under anesthesia if they don't need need it done. Diamond & Luna lost more weight 🎉🎉 So proud! Diamond has a bit more to go than Luna does but I know she will get there. They are almost at our 1st "goal" weight then they will be reevaluated and probably go to our 2nd "goal" weight for the both of them. Then on to maintaining their weights. So we did something new today! I finally got the extra gear we needed (extenders for their harnesses) and replaced the back 2 lines (1 from Angel chewing it and 1 needed to be replaced just to be safe). The orange lines are our new gear. So now I can take 3-4 dogs out bikejoring at a time. We all LOVED it and they all worked amazing as a team. Hunter was in lead for a while but was slowing down a bit. So I switch him and Nala and she took lead amazingly. A video or 2 coming soon. Medicinal Mushrooms for Dogs 🍄 I am not a veterinarian. I did some research myself to find more information about mushrooms for dogs on how they work and what they do. Please note: not all mushrooms are safe for dogs. The 7 that I looked up and have used for my pack are the following ones: Turkey tail Lion's mane Cordyceps Chaga Shiitake Maitake Reishi There are many benefits to adding mushrooms to your dogs diet. Some benefits are: immune boosting, anti-inflammatory such as arthritis and joint pain, health promoting properties and more. There are even nutritional benefits to them such as vitamins and minerals, fiber and antioxidants. Not all mushrooms are safe for dogs to consume. Wild varieties, can include toxic species that can be harmful if ingested. Mushroom supplements, are more carefully formulated to exclude harmful species, making them a safer option. I started giving my pack these 7 mushrooms from @barkistadogcoffee. Since doing so I have seen a difference in not only Luna and Diamond but the whole pack. I did notice the days I give it to them, Luna is running around way better than days she doesn't get it. I will be keeping mushrooms in my packs diet with all the benefits they have and the results I see in them. Bath time 🛁 The whole pack had a bath! We used our favorite shampoo and conditioner brand of @earthbath_pet. In their shed control formula. I really love this one, 2nd time using it and it works really good on them. As you can see some of them didn't like getting a bath but they were all so well behaved. I honestly don't know how I lived without using conditioner on them. But now we don't anymore and boy does it make a difference. Paw care 🐾 I take their paw care very important and that's what they use daily to walk on. So it very important to me and them to keep them well maintained. 1. Scissor: I use these to trim their paw hairs when needed. Yes you can trim Huskies paw hairs and it won't affect anything. I trim them every few months or as needed. These are made specifically for dogs. 2. Dermel: I grind their nails instead of using dog clippers. Just a preference and what I find more comfortable and better to use. 3. @wagswagg.us Magic form: I love their paw cleaner for a deep clean that is safe for their paws. Grooming supplies I don't use much while grooming them to be honest. I use what works for us and with good ingredients. 1. @earthbath_pet wipes: I do use the puppy wipes as they are gentle on the skin which I mainly need for Luna. I love to have these on hand for anytime they need it like: we are out and about and they step or roll in anything, just need a spot clean between baths, their paws are dirty and need a fast easy wash, etc. They are also not strong scented but you can smell the cherries to them! 2. @earthbath_pet spritz: I also use this in the puppy too. I really love to use this before they are brushed/blown out. It helps get any tangles out (if there is any) and makes them smell and feel fresh. When it's almost empty I do fill it back up with water till I put another order in. Water with a bit of the solution left works good too. 3. Undercoat rake: this is my favorite type of brush to use on my pack especially when they are blowing. Now this particular brand I don't really like but it does work to a point like my old rake. My old rake brand I unfortunately can't find it anymore so I found this one. 3. Slicker brush: I like to use this type of brush to give them a good brush but also great for deshedding them too. I love to use this brush as I use the undercoat rake. 4. Porcupine brush: this brush is only really good to fluff them. It good to collect any lose hair and just want a quick brushing. Not my favorite but it works. 5. Blower (not pictured): I don't use a dog blower. I use a blower that is for many things (it's like a small leaf blower as reference). But it works for blowing the dogs too. It doesn't blow them to hard and not to light but it works just like a dog blower. I like it but I'm working on saving up for a dog blower to get one soon. Free to control feeding Is switching from free to control feeding hard? No, not all. My pack took it to right away, which I was happy about. Some dogs it can take a day or 2 but they will catch on to your new routine. Keep consistent is key. Why did I switch? There was a couple reasons. 1. Luna & Diamond needed to lose more weight a bit faster than they were. They would eat here and there so their bodies were working all the time. 2. Hunter, Nala & Angel weren't eating enough to maintain their weight. They only picked to eat once a day and wasn't working anymore for them. Now they are all eating twice a day and doing so much better than I could even imagine. Luna & Diamond are now losing weight like they should and the rest are maintaining their weight! Days we do heavier exercise I up their food for the ones that need it. Another bit eye opening was how I was measuring their food. I now am using a human measuring cup their you would measuring flour out of. I was using a dog food scooper and that was a BIG mistake, as they hold so much more than a measuring cup does. These few changes has help us all out and couldn't be thankful. Also be mindful if you rotate brand of food pay attention to the kcal per food. If that is changing you need to change the amount they get fed. For example the brand we feed I rotate within. 1 protein kcal is 340 and another protein kcal is 347 and another protein kcal is 387. For the 340 I feed a bit more than I would if I fed the 387. When I 1st started: I started with their food, soaking in water, and over the topper to make the whole process a positive thing and it's not a bad thing. If I go over on time they will be sure be there tilling me that it's time to eat. Nala had her annual vet appointment today. She had her physical exam, updated on her Lyme vaccine and her 4DX (heartworm and 3 tick diseases). Her 4DX came back negative, her heart and lungs sound good, teeth look good, weight is good and nothing feels off. Her fecal was sent off to be tested. Today's topic is dog weight loss: I'm no expert but this is what worked for me and my pack. 1. I checked their thyroid levels. I tested Luna's twice (both were normal) but not Diamond's yet. 2. I added in more exercise during the day. 3. My biggest move was changing from free feeding to control feeding. I did change for many reasons not just for Luna & Diamond. There was many other factors that played in making me make that change. (I'll make a post on how and why we changed from free feeding to control feeding soon.) 4. The measure cup I use for measuring their food. I was using a dog food scooper and learned that was the WORST thing to use to measure their food out. It's much bigger of a scoope that what it says. For an example the scoop I was using it said 2 cups but actually held 3 cups of food. 😳 What I use now is a human measuring cup like you would use for flour. So now they are getting the proper amount of food each of them needs. 5. Since switching from free feeding to control feeding. They are now fed twice a day and love meal like! Since doing all this Luna & Diamond has lost a total of 6lbs each in 8 weeks since switching. All of them are looking better especially those 2. On the road to great fullness and even more healthier bodies and lives. I don't think I have shared this but I am today! As many of you know Luna had and still has many issues to her. The left picture is from last year and you can see her fur is dull and patchy on her sides and not filled in. The right picture is from today and you see she has filled in on her sides. 1 of them is skin and fur issues since she was about a year old till recently. She will not be 100% perfect but I think we are finally at bay. 🎉 I have tired many things per our vets recommendation and nothing every worked it just stopped the itching she had and cleared it up some. Since about a year old Luna has has patches of hair she would lose. They were itchy so much they would just bleed (even if she didnt itch them they would still bleed) and get really gross. Our vet gave Luna a special shampoo to use for 2 weeks and it cleared them up. But took forever for her hair to grow back in. I also adding in salmon oil to their diet. Then she was spayed back in 2021 and she got the worse dry and flakey skin and her coat got very dull and corse a bit. Just thought it was a spay coat like some dogs can get. I don't think it was. I have recently add bee pollen and goat milk to their diet (I'll make separate posts on how both are). I will say as of the last week since adding them in Luna's fur and skin is looking really nice and finally soft again!! I can't believe how much her skin and coat has change for the better. On another note with Luna is look how much weight she has lost. The picture on the left was last year and the picture on the right is from today. She has lost a total of 5lbs since December 11, 2023. May not be much to some but that is really good for Luna, especially for her body and joints. Still more to lose about another 5lbs but we are almost at the weight I would like to see her before we reevaluate her to see if she needs to lose a little more. If anyone would like me to share how I'm getting her to lose weight let me know and I'll share. Also let me know if anyone would like me to share what I am giving Luna that has been helping her out.

Yuli went for a 0.62 mile walk as he is to young to join in bikejoring. Yuli enjoyed his walk! He did lots of sniffing, exploring and taking in all the scents around.
