Women only want one thing: deep pockets, and lots of them. At least, that's according to design expert Hannah Carlson, who says women have rallied for pocket equity for centuries. This notorious lack of pockets in women's clothing prompted her to write Pockets: An Intimate History of How We Keep Things Close. Carlson, who also teaches dress history and material culture at the Rhode Island School of Design, digs deep into the history of the pocket and the cultural significance it has in women's lives. Carlson points out that in menswear, pockets are expected, while in womenswear, they're not. This is an excerpt from a CBC radio article my girlfriend sent me. If there is one thing missing in women's design, it's pockets. Well, honestly, there are lots of things, but the top of the list is pockets in my view. Thought I'd share a new design for the Labour day long weekend. This piece is made of a very soft knit in an oversized houndstooth print. I added a pocket to the side seam as we all love an outfit with pockets! There are so many ways to wear this piece. I started with a casual look but it can easily be worn over a little black dress to give it an little something extra. I was able to squeeze one in each size. Market season is almost here! It is my most favourite time of the year. We will be in Yorkton, Carlyle, Saskatoon and Regina this fall. See below for dates of where we will be. A variety of styles will be available at each market. There will be limited quantities of each design and size. Mostly one of each size. This allows for more uniqueness and that you aren't dressed like everyone else. There will be no sales or discounts this year as the cost of supplies in some instances has gone up 400%. I try my best to keep my designs affordable, however, if I don't increase prices slightly, I will not be in business for much longer. The upcoming fall and winter collection was designed with longevity in mind. I want those who purchase my designs to be able to wear them for years to come. The West End Home Foundation asked Amaranth Designs to update and refresh their well-established, historical brand. They asked to include the iconic flame inspired from a stain glass window in the original home for women- a strong mark that looked to the past as well as to the future. We developed a bright color pallet that reflected the colors in a flame and stylized the flame shapes. The logo is often side by side with other organization logos and stands out with its simplicity and bold colors. The brand included collateral, event materials and website design. Itโs once again Mental Health Week here in Canada (May 2-8), and I am doing my part to spread the message and support some of the folks doing the work right here at home. This is the third year for the Amaranth Designs Annual Heart Sweater Charity Campaign, and we are once again supporting the work of Family Service Regina. They provide many different kinds of counselling for families, couples, and individuals of all ages. My annual heart-themed designs are my way of reminding those around us that we are here for them in word and deed because all the proceeds from every sweater sold go to Family Service Regina. Our charity sweaters are a signal that youโre willing to put funds directly toward community care. It can also be a great conversation starter to check in on each other and practice those empathy skills. Using your iPhone may not be the best approach to marketing visuals. There is a reason stock photography is widely used. For example: a professional photo has been very carefully planned and staged. No distractions in the shot- mismatched clothing, messy hair, dirty shoes, unnecessary items in photo etc. All of those details are managed and directed in order to get a great shot. 2. ๐๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ป๐. Donโt focus on the details of your product or service. Instead, talk about how your product or service benefits your audience. Put yourself in your customersโ shoes. What are they looking for? How can you help? Solve a problem. Itโs not about you. Itโs about what resonates with your customer. 3. ๐ช๐ต๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐ถ๐ ๐๐ผ๐๐ฟ ๐ณ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ. Packing your materials with copy and images is a dead give-away to โdo-it-yourselfโ design. White space helps focus on what is important for your reader to know. Too much of everything creates chaos and visually overwhelms your reader. Itโs just too much of a commitment. Weโve all tried to read materials like this.
