I’m so proud of this DIY project! I really wanted elevate and make my Halloween decor in our downstairs living room dark cottagecore/dark academia look. The last picture was my inspiration I spotted at Michaels earlier but I wanted to make it more me. I bought a skeleton missing a arm at Home Goods and knew I wanted to do something fun with it. I seen a YT short showing how to use wood stain to age plastic skeletons and ran with it (I don’t know whose video it was and forgot to save it). I thrifted the frame painted it and antiqued using inspiration from @makingitmyownyt Spooky Elegance video on YouTube. I didn’t have any craft paper that fit the frame or wasn’t exactly what I wanted so I tore pictures from multiple design craft pages and aged them with antiquing wax. Then I put it all together added some flowers I got from Hobby Lobby and some moss for added “I’ve been dead for awhile I’m becoming one with nature” feel. I’m so in love with this piece! Decor wax is amazing for adding highlights to any project and for making those little details pop 💫 They are smooth and creamy and glide on with ease. Here are a few helpful tips when using a decor wax. It is easy to apply Decor wax. You can use a brush, sponge, soft cloth, or your fingers. A little goes a long way so start with a small amount. You can always add more. If you use too much you can wipe off the excess with a rag. Decor wax should always be applied last on any furniture project. Wax is self-curing and permanent when dry and does not require a protective coat. Decor wax can be applied over Decor transfers but transfers should not be applied over wax. Meet Bea! The name Bea means “bringer of happiness” and I know my client is so happy with how this piece turned out! She almost wasn’t sure if it was worth salvaging but it obviously was! This piece is solid wood (I’m pretty sure pine). Because pine is a softwood with an uneven grain pattern and is super porous, I made sure to use a wood conditioner before staining. Otherwise, jumping right to staining might’ve resulted in a blotchy appearance. I used the color Basil by General Finishes milk paint. I love how it’s subtle enough to be neutral but still provides color to a space. I also used dark wax to “antique” the piece a bit. I recently stumbled across this wallpaper at Target and felt it was really complimentary to the design plan for this piece.
