Passion For Weird #foodbabysoul #foodforthought #truestory I was having a lunch conversation with a friend who said “I think when people do extra, they are truly passionate. For instance, I don’t like how I spend my day, but I have to, so I really don’t do more than I have to. Why would I do more?” There were additional ideas to the conversation, but I realized how passionate I have been about Seed Streets Brooklyn. I don’t think about it much specifically as passion, but more like just doing my best work with what I can afford with what’s on hand so that I can keep my spaces and keep transforming places. I had an architect DM wanting me to consult on a prize he hopes to win and transform his block. He wouldn’t ask if he wasn’t seeing the impact of what I do. It was hard to answer his questions because all of it happens because gardening is a long game. It’s not a quick tag for the streets. Both have value and take time. A little truth is that, sometimes I have given up some of the best and most creative work to others, because of the maintenance. I have to share my stuff to be the the person cleaning, watering, dealing with what makes it fall out of favor for my standard of how I gauge maximum performance art coming from the nature and the surroundings. I mostly take in what I want the audience to envision as potential. Maybe one day they will invest in nature vs take from it. I have super high standards. My expectations are totally changing but not my personal standards for what I would put my money on. I think I have been good bank for people. The treeptych - on display SCX Stage 2 from 10-3pm April 29-May 1st We need to unequivocally love our planet and the people in it and treat it like the loving home it provides before it is too late A three-panel installation of !plastiglomerates!, WOUND and Cricket Feet. Each film tells a different abstract story of climate change and modern humanity and technology’s effect on it. They are commemorative trees built by people in a future without them - tombstones for a nature that once was, in a desolate campsite with specific warnings on each. These people live in a world torn apart by ecological disasters - not too-dissimilar from our own. With sea surface temperatures breaking records almost daily, the AMOC on the verge of collapse, all-time highs around the globe, more than one million species on the brink of extinction, the treeptych is meant to spread awareness about the effects of industry, capitalism, and technology on our planet and draw a parallel between the world of the treeptych and ours. They eulogize an aspect of nature and humanity lost to such change - the self, other people, and loss on a spiritual/existential level. !plastiglomerates! is how the self deteriorates when the planet does. WOUND is how the human family does. Cricket Feet shows the doom presented by climate change for all species and their inherent connectivity through this. The installation is made of recycled/found wood cut and refashioned covered in dead palms and leaves with monitors fit in the front. These discarded dead objects given new form represent the decaying state of our planet and the ways technology will live on and change us in ways that the trees won’t. They are imaginative trees of this future age, dead and unlike any tree in our nature but omitting bright, high-tech lights and images. They have twisted and grown around the monitors - a nature permanently distorted by tech that will live on amongst our creations but consumed by them. It was inspired by Nam June Paik, specifically TV Garden, Hawkins Bolden, Lonnie Holley, Joe Minter, Mary T. Smith, and Clancy Philbrick. ☂Collaboration exhibition to be held in Naramachi, Nara Oct 22-27, 2024 We have officially decided to hold our first mother and daughter collaborative exhibition in Nara in five years! The venue is the old private house gallery of my favorite Naramachi, “Yosaburo Nakanishi,” which has been a long-established Japanese sweets shop for over 100 years. I contacted the gallery because I really wanted to hold an exhibition of my works there, and after previewing the gallery, we made an immediate decision. It is a truly lovely place, and there is a cafe inside where you can enjoy their delicious Japanese sweets and Japanese tea while admiring the beautiful courtyard. I will be exhibiting and selling kimono upcycled parasols and related goods And my mother is a potter to make somewhat unique ceramic artworks called “toutai” lacquerware, technique of applying lacquer to colored ceramics. We hope you will enjoy our exhibition with all five of your senses. Please look forward to it and write down your schedule. Also, this is a very selfish request, but I dare to say. I have a long time dream of having my kimono upcycled parasols loved by people in countries all over the world. However, it is difficult for me to expand this dream with my poor English skills by myself. I created a Calla Lily using repurposed materials for @artbynatalya's Earth Month Repurpose Collage Challenge. The materials I used were plastic food wrappers, chopsticks, bamboo interdental picks, and a piece of a prefilled injection pen. I'm excited to share this gentle little Calla Lily, which has a unique shape and colors, making it even more special. I made it quickly, but I'm happy with how it turned out. While it may not be as open as a traditional Calla Lily, I enjoyed creating it so much that I look forward to making more flowers.
