National University of Singapore. by Joey Bunag @jb.atelier__ Soulscape —based on the Blade Runner 2049 movie— delves into spatial dwelling experiences, drawing from emotive sections that encapsulate the replicant character's evolution from programmed obedience to human-like emotional responses. The project investigates how architecture can craft a seamless journey from the bustling city environment down to a safe space that fosters a profound sense of freedom. Capturing experiences from the Tanjong Pagar precinct, the design incorporates elements: the shophouse frontage as the 'public eye', the back alley as a 'safe space’, and the Community Green as a leisure zone. This approach provides residents with a multifaceted living experience reflecting the soul of the surrounding urban environment whilst offering a safe space to express one’s soul. Central to the project are two relevant questions: What extends beyond dwellings while remaining in the heart of a safe space? How can vibrancy be infused into typically monotonous corridors? Soulscape presents two unit types catering to diverse interests and energy levels: one for active pursuits with open & high-volumed layouts, and another for individual expression, featuring enclosed yet airy spaces. Both incorporate sunken living areas for a casual atmosphere, providing options for personal retreats. Public corridors leading to units double as engaging leisure spaces, offering glimpses into daily life. Overall, the aggregate forms intertwining units, creating dynamic contrasts between open and concealed spaces. It offers diverse activities along the perimeter and scenic vistas for visual relief. The ephemerality of Deptford captures this point - genuine, purposeful, its agenda for the people who call it home. the careless convoys wharf development threatens this nature and exponentially hastens the death of Deptford. My proposal focuses on a fragment of Deptford history and implements technological methodology facilitating a more independent Deptford, utilising the Thames as a source of sustainable and self-sufficient power and water. Furthermore, ingredients for the traditional pie and mash are grown and processed on site, the protection of the dish acts as metaphor for the wider project, fostering this fragment of history allows Deptford to continue to provide for its people. In order to defend Deptford, a shield of cloud is created by altering the atmospheric conditions over the site. Architect: Frida Escobedo The first objective in social development is to shift housing construction into more central urban zones, giving residents increased access to the benefits of urban life. A social net must be created that is based not on formal urban or architectonic configurations, but rather the construction process itself. This prototype is therefore contingent on the possibility of development by the hands of its inhabitants, not developers or architects. This adaptability permits a reconfiguration of programs and activities that dictate the functioning of one or more families. Collective effort and subsequent social dynamics generate hierarchy in these new domestic spaces, ... The issue of social development is addressed by using the form of a shell that helps reduce the costs of non-consolidated housing, like the continuous remodeling caused by poor use of materials and bad administration of construction. Both the simplification of services and collection of rainwater are significant aspects of the design. Moreover, the distribution of program is designed to take advantage of the best quality of light, thereby reducing electrical consumption. The economic strategy of the project focuses on constructing the largest part of the house with the least possible number of walls, reducing both the initial cost and, perhaps more importantly, the likelihood of multi-generational debt stemming from its construction. Another strategy de- ployed is the incremental and progressive nature of the complex, whereby material can be saved through collaboration and co-habitation between families and neighbors, as they divide the construction expenses and labor of shared walls.
