🎨 “The Unveiling” 🎨 In the dimly lit chamber, the air hung heavy with fear. The people, their faces etched with terror, huddled together as if seeking solace in their collective vulnerability. Above them, the grand fresco by Michelangelo adorned the ceiling—a masterpiece that had long captivated the faithful. But this day was different. For high above, amidst the celestial figures and heavenly hosts, an anomaly had materialized—an alien. Its form defied earthly conventions: elongated limbs, iridescent skin, and eyes that held the weight of galaxies. It hovered, suspended between the divine and the mundane, a cosmic interloper in the sacred space. The people pointed, their trembling fingers tracing the contours of the unexpected visitor. Was it an angel? A demon? Or something beyond their comprehension? The priest, clad in crimson robes, raised his arms in supplication, torn between invoking divine protection and acknowledging the inexplicable. The alien regarded them with inscrutable eyes, its presence both awe-inspiring and unsettling. It had not come with wrath or benevolence; it simply observed. Perhaps it sought answers to questions that transcended the confines of Earth—an emissary from realms unknown. As whispers spread through the congregation, the fresco seemed to shift. The archangels and saints appeared to acknowledge their extraterrestrial counterpart. Was this a cosmic council convened to deliberate humanity’s fate? Or a mere coincidence—an artist’s whimsy immortalized in pigment? The people knelt, their prayers a cacophony of desperation and wonder. The alien remained aloof, its purpose veiled in cosmic ambiguity. And as the light filtered through the stained glass windows, casting kaleidoscopic hues upon the scene, the boundary between the sacred and the profane blurred. Michelangelo’s brush had unwittingly bridged worlds—the terrestrial and the cosmic—within the confines of a chapel. As a Team of Nepali Creatives living in the UK, it is an honour to announce our collaboration with our dear friend and fellow creative @supath 📸✨ The idea for this collaboration emerged spontaneously after we put out a story post reaching out to creatives if they'd like to showcase and sell their work at our event. That's how we got 🎨 @yumekounart on board, and tomorrow she'll be doing just that. Between @supath and us, one thing led to another and we settled on a Charity Fundraiser idea. It was a no-brainer really! A simple collaboration project to not just raise money for charity, but to serve Art as a catalyst for change and create a bigger impact in our community, our home country. Art beyond borders. We'll be selling prints from his 'Humans of Nepal' Photo Series to raise money for charity. 100% of profits will go to charity. We haven't decided on the charity yet, but we will announce it after the event. Needless to say, it will be a charity working on projects in Nepal. Please comment your suggestions here on this post. It was tough to finalise the photos as they're all so beautifully captured, but we've had to narrow them down to 10 photos. They represent different ages, gender, race, cultures, and environments. This year, instead of MG Live we did The Good Lab. Why? Because we knew it was time to dig deeper into knowledge-sharing after the trauma of the past nearly five years. When we say knowledge-sharing, we mean with each other as creatives, but also cross industry, sector, culture, practice, community, gender, age, and experience. Full throttle interdisciplinary and intersectional! Incredible groups such as @tomorrow.lab_th @studiophuwa @anewburma @lanner.news @triple.edge @golden_land_solidarity @dude.movie - to name just a few - were part of the 34 speakers and presentations we heard from in Chiang Mai. Their generosity, kindness, and willingness to collaborate for a better future was beyond inspirational, powerful and something to be echoed across the globe. For decades, Friendship Park, where the Pacific Ocean meets the US-Mexico border, was the only federally designated place along the border where loved ones separated by unjust immigration policies could reunite, gathering on each side of the fence. On any given weekend, you could find parents bringing their children to meet their grandparents for the first time and others saying goodbye to dying loved ones. However, access to the park has evolved over the years, with fences being replaced by walls, until it became that the only way families could connect physically was to touch the tips of their pinkies together through the holes in the metal mesh meant to keep them apart. Throughout the years, on the México side of the border wall at Friendship Park, artists and community members have come together to paint murals and build gardens, beautifying and breathing life into this structure that dehumanizes families in migration. Although Biden campaigned on a promise to not continue to build even one more inch of border wall, the government tore down the mural-covered wall at Friendship Park in order to build a taller, more deadly wall, one that extends 30 feet high into the air, the height at which people have been found to become disoriented and fall. Last week, deported artists Javier Salazar Rojas (@deportedartist) and @Chris.Cuauhtli, began the work of reclaiming the newly built wall and painted two new murals on the Mexico side of Friendship Park. Our Bi-national Deportee Program coordinator, Pricila Rivas, went out to join them in a show of solidarity and support. Two years ago, both artists led a community mural project at Al Otro Lado’s Tijuana office. The pair continue to be involved in uplifting other deportees in the community, helping them to realize that aquí hay sueños también. Because the US government may have the power to make a lot of decisions we don’t like, a lot of decisions that are unjust, but what they don’t get to decide is where we find beauty, even if they intended for us to see none.
