🌾 Rice water (Tandulodaka) Rice water or also known as Tandulodaka in Ayurveda is a white fluid obtained from the water used to wash the rice before cooking or boiling. With foot massage it helps to relax your eyes and relieves eye strain. 🧘‍♀️ Meditation practice helps to calm your mind and all the Vata energy from your day. I also like to practice breathing exercise - Bhramari (Humlan) 🛁Hot baths are also calming. 😴The best time to go to bed is around or just before 10pm. If one stays awake after 10 pm the active nature of Pitta can prevent sleep. Pitta continues to increase from 10 pm - 2 am. You will notice the increase in appetite (mid night cravings) due to Pitta in this time. Ayurveda and the winter season Series In the wintertime, we often feel cold and more dry. Nature provides the antidote for all this dryness. During the winter season, in order to keep the body warm from within, Ayurveda recommends foods like Ghee, sesame seeds, flax seeds, peanuts, and jaggery. Sesame seeds - Sesame seeds are naturally warm and full of good fats. They are rich in copper, iron, zinc and various vitamins, these seeds are superfoods in winter. It also helps to build strong immunity. You can have it with jaggery or add in the soups and stews. Jaggery - Made from sugarcane, jaggery generates heat inside the body. Health benefits of millet: - Helps in weight loss - Promotes bone health - Helps to prevent type 2 Diabetes - Reduces blood pressure - Lowers bad cholesterol - Helps to optimize kidney, liver and immune system According to Ayurveda millet balances Kapha and Pitta dosha and can increase Vata dosha. Daily Ayurvedic morning Routine for healthy life. The objective of Ayurveda is ‘swasthasya swasthya rakshanam’ i.e. to protect and maintain the health of a healthy person (preventive medicine). There is an elaborate description of Ayurvedic daily routines or Dinacharya according to dosha clock to achieve a state of health. Ayurvedic Morning Routine- 🌞Rise early - Ideally before 6 AM before KAPHA period starts. Wake up at the same time everyday. 💦Wash your face 👅Scrape your tongue - helps to remove the coating on the tongue (reduces bad breath) good for oral health and digestive system 🪥Brush your teeth 💧Drink a glass of warm water 👃 Nasal application of Ghee or sesame oil - 2-2 drops in each nostril or simply dip your little finger in Ghee and apply Ghee inside each nostril. It helps in migraine, allergies, sleep problem and respiratory health 🥥Oil pulling - Swishing warm coconut oil or sesame oil. Great for oral health, improves the sense of taste 💆 Self Abhyanga or Oil massage - Warm sesame oil is best. 🍃Elimination- Bowel movement in the morning is a sign of healthy digestive system 🚿 Warm water shower - Cleanses the body and will bring energy and alertness 🧘‍♀️ Yoga, Pranayam (Breathing exercises) and Meditation - I like to do 12 rounds of Sun salutations in the morning with some breathing exercises and Meditation practice 🥣Warm cooked breakfast- breakfast should be light warm and cooked 🗣Choose one or two of these practices to start, and after a week, take a note of your energy levels, how you feel. Ayurvedic swaps for Autumn 🍂 As the season changes we need to make a few simple changes to our eating and dietary cycle. We often make the mistake of eating the same foods year round without realizing that with the changing seasons, our diets must also change. This is particularly important in the Autumn season. Since Autumn season brings cold and dry elements, start eating warmer or steamed foods to balance and nourish these effects. Fruits - cooked apples, cooked pears are great. Warm cooked apples, if eaten for breakfast are good for our gut health Spiced teas, herbal teas- Spiced teas such as ginger, licorice, basil, black pepper, cinnamon are balancing for light and airy Vata. Vegetables- Root vegetables like beetroot, carrots, pumpkin, squash, sweet potatoes balances Vata. Avoid raw vegetables. Fat - Embrace healthy fats. Ghee is the best.
