04/11/24 Many ballet dancers know that our careers can revolve around the roles we portray—more specifically, the people and personalities we embody to portray characters which could be so far from who we actually are. Then, ballets like Wayne McGregor’s WOOLF WORKS come into play and suddenly…there’s a shift. Somehow between the colossal picture frames, the fog, and the lasers, something miraculous happened—I found Patrick written in the pages of Mrs. Dalloway and Orlando. Perhaps that’s what Virginia Woolf intended all those years ago with her stories…that we recognize kinship and connection within literature, thus further understanding ourselves in a newer and fresher light. Last night was a very special double debut for me, and I was truly honored to premiere WW in Costa Mesa, where ballet shaped my teenage years like welding steel in a forge. The countless ABT shows I was graced by reinforced my will to join this company one day and rise to new heights in ballet. This performance was every bit the homecoming I could have asked for. A sincere and heartfelt thank you to @chloemisseldine @andrewrobare @calvinroyaliii @antoine_v Mikaela Polly Amanda Eyles @carloslopeznewyork Amanda McKerrow John Gardner and Uzma Hameed for being the most remarkable souls and people who made this process as remarkable and unforgettable as it is. Also to @stevenmcrae_ and @calvin_richardson for inspiring me through your own astounding interpretations Act II Becomings and Evans in Act I. Lastly, to @studiowaynemcgregor for creating this masterpiece and trusting ABT to bring honor and new life to Virginia Woolf’s writings. This is an exciting chapter in the saga of my life, and I count myself blessed and eternally grateful. Time to do it all again 🙏🏻 #thoughts
