Our u8s had a great game against Virginia FC this morning. Gabriel and Aaron had a great game in goal and also up front. Liam played a stormer against a very strong Virginia Keeper keeping him busy. Michael showed great progress challenging for ball. Cara Lauren and Hollie played up from the 8s along with 2 debuts as we had a few away but more then held their own. Hollie playing as almost a quarter back receiving the ball from Emily rose in goal and pinging balls into Cara Mellisa and Lauren superbly. POTM Elaina who made her debut was understandably a bit nervous to begin with but after a reset in second half she grew in confidence even grabbing an assist for Hollie. U10 played an unbeaten Parkvilla Friday night. Having not played on the smaller pitch 9 in a while the lads didn't feel at home. Undeterred they passed the ball around as best they could with Brandon Cully creating alot of scoring opportunities for both Ryan Murphy and Harry Burton. Parkvilla had a few chances but Majus Packevicius and Oliver Reynolds Towel dealt with most of the opposition advances. 1st half Johnstown had the advantage but there was little in it. 2nd half Parkvilla started strongly with alot of possession and a real physical battle in midfield. The lads held firm and won a penalty. Brandon and Ryan pushed hard in the second half tirelessly setting up Harry to score a haul. Well done Oli 🤜🏼🤛🏼 The amazing thing about this is that Oli played out of position today. He usually plays centre back but his team's goalkeeper wasn't available today and they don't have another keeper in the squad. So Oli volunteered to go in goal for the game today. I was a little worried because he plays well in defence and you take him out of that and possibly leave the defence weakened, but also goalkeeping is a completely different art. I took him to training on Thursday evening and he did some keeper training before playing in goal for the shooting drills and the training game. He did ok in the drills and kept a clean sheet in the training game. I was still a little worried as the team they played today is a very good side but Oli's team won 3-1 and he made a lot of good saves. For an outfield player to go in goal and your team wins, that's insane.
