I love playing outside and watching the scenery change by what’s happing and who is passing through. I got to play for, and talk to so many wonderful people last night. My heart is so full. About 20 years ago a homeless man I was talking to asked me “What is your privilege? What is your dominion?” I have pondered those two lines for many years, and I know the answer. My privilege is to be blessed to find some incredible records and to be able to play them for people. There is something so beautiful about playing on the street, making these vibes accessible for anyone who wishes to partake in them. And sometimes people who are living on the streets come and dance, and even bring money that they insist on giving me. This feels so humbling and beautiful. Tonight was truly magical. I built the box that allowed me to do what I love on a slightly bigger scale. This was built out of a part of an Ikea dresser I found in the garbage, and a fruit box. I was so moved as people stopped to check out the speaker or ask about the records, or tunes. I was moved to see people dancing in the street. I was moved to see people bobbing their heads as they walked by. I was moved to see firemen and garbage men bobbing there heads, waving and smiling as they passed by me. I was moved by all the conversations, and the presence of all who stopped by, and all who stayed for a while. I was moved by the magical fairytale moon 🌙. I was moved by all the gifts that were left on my speaker. I was moved by the shared experience of enjoying reggae outdoors on a beautiful summer night. I was moved to tears to feel every fibre of my soul in full joy, knowing I was doing what I came here to do.
