Not being able to run sucks! This back injury has ruined my routine and been a massive kick in the crotch for the marathon training I was continuing. . A switch to the bike again tonight, first time out since Sunday and boy did it feel nice. A little bit of time to just switch off and pedal. A very steady pace this morning after the exertion of yesterday's benchmark test. . Started in the dark armed with the headtorch and an audiobook and did an out and back route in which I lost track of time and the run did not seem to take long at all. . Good bit of mindset development this morning as I prepare for the return to work tomorrow!
2019 year in review Jun-Dec . This second half of the year is where the training really ramped up towards World's Toughest Mudder in November. . June - Ratrace Runstock - I achieved the 50km ultra distance and set my 'fastest' marathon time . July - A fairly quiet month with longer weekend runs . August - TM fun with friends out on course and some cracking memories of Sean's 50th event π€£ . September - A wedding to show I'm not always cakes in mud alongside huge group shots at the start line which epitomises what TM is about . October - 2nd consecutive year of completing the Trifecta weekend with Spartan - all 3 distances in 2 days. . November - The big one - WTM was the culmination of the years training and it did not disappoint. 50 miles completed and the brown bib earned πͺπ» . December - Hitting the 1000 mile target for the year π. . It's been another huge year and I'm looking forward to 2020 π€π»
2019 year in review Jan-May . If 5 months could take you through a rollercoaster of emotions and fitness levels then these 5 months did that for me this year. . January was spent running...a lot! A new half marathon PB smashed out and a plod around the velodrome in Stratford ticked off the highest mileage month of the year. . February...10km PB at the Winter Run but injury struck and I was rendered unable to properly walk or run for ages - huge low point of the year. The marathon plan was cancelled after no improvement. . March - First bit of running without pain after a load of rehab work with @riseandgrindrunning in the gym meant that the focus could be directed on ETM in May . April was a month of trail running with the boys to build back some fitness. . May - The return of the @tough_mudder season and ETM 35 miles - A huge achievement to signify the end of the first half of the year goals I had set. . These first few months humbled me and taught me to listen to my body after obviously pushing too hard in the first month of the year. I learnt so much about my mental resilience and needed it for Europe's Toughest in May. What a ride that was.

Judged the pace this morning by feel - I only checked the watch 3 times over the course of the run. It felt nice to run and ignore the notifications of pacing etc. . Felt really good throughout and the stats agree. I've been using a chest HR monitor since my injury and my left-right balance was waaay off earlier in the year - today it was 49.9-50.1% so spot on! . Final training run done. 45 minutes out with the headtorch on and my awesome new @truesapien top. . Spent the entire run fixated on the floor to avoid any potential pot holes which could cause an injury. (Can you tell the pre event stress is getting to me?) So focused in fact that I was nearly hit by a car π±ππ€£. . Just over 5 miles done to round it all off. All that's left is a stretching session and 20 minutes super easy on Friday in the US before abusing my body like never before.

Sunday long run done at the second attempt. I had planned on doing this super early this morning and got up at half 3 to head out. As I was lacing my shoes I heard a dripping in the kitchen only to find we had a leak! . Run on hold! Got it all sorted thanks to the swift work of a plumber but then had to wait for wifey to finish work before I could head out. . I hate running in the evening after a day of eating, guts play up every time and that last half an hour was tough!! . Apart from a twinge in the left knee, my HR was good and I felt comfortable for the majority of the distance. . Couldn't help but think how different the day might have been if I wasn't an absolute lunatic who got up at half 3 and spotted the leak. π€

I love Autumn, crisp mornings make for some lovely running conditions. . This morning was 40 mins @ ~5min/km and then 20 mins @ ~4:30 min/km . It was tough to pick the pace up and I finished hunched over but I feel amazing now. . Only one more speed session to go before the big event π±
Monday workout done. Felt weird being in the gym later than usual because of half term. . An absolute forearm destroyer today, working on that grip strength for World's Toughest because it's an area I still feel needs improvement. . Spot the runners.... Sunday session completed. Hit the trails for a couple of hours with the lads. Fueled by last night's beers, the extra hour in bed definitely helped! π€£ . Just under 14 miles banked on various terrains. In 3 weeks time I'll be coming to the end of the 24 hours of pain. My body will hate me but will hopefully keep moving forward when I want it to!
