The past year or so, I have tried to keep the majority of my posts, on the lighthearted side… not delving too much into my private life/plights… But, today was a hard day; after a month’s worth of appointments, to lead up to this. Given my choosing to adopt a more authentic way of living my life- it can sometimes clash with the parts I struggle to deal with… Walking into a facility solely named/based, on this type of health program; drawing attention- due to my appearance, how I disassociate during discussions and procedures, being asked to remove clothing I’m not wearing… Having the ‘mentally foreign’ parts of you- that you try to ignore/hide, be on display- as the temporary sole focus of your identity (for, the reasonings at hand), can be emotionally taxing, humiliating, and potentially depressing…. After multiple mammograms, and ultrasounds… Today, was my biopsy. My only silver lining here, is the genetic predisposition that signifies me, as ‘high-risk’… Meaning, the hurdles may be fast-coming, to finish this race, to achieve my desired outcome. It’s an honor to introduce you all to the most recent addition to our Cancer Kickers team, Liam! This handsome young man is 12 years old. Liam is battling B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Liam was diagnosed with ALL on July 25, 2023. There were a few trigger warnings he experienced which ultimately led to his diagnosis including: a low grade fever along with joint and leg pain. Due to these red flags, Liam’s pediatrician decided to run a blood test. The results of the blood test indicated cancer and within 48 hours he had received his official diagnosis and began chemotherapy treatments. Liam has a long journey ahead of him. He will receive chemo treatments for the next eight to ten months, which will then be followed by maintenance treatment. Liam had a bone marrow biopsy this past November. We are glad to be able to share that the scans showed no detection of cancer cells meaning that Liam is now considered to be in remission. Liam, we encourage you to remember that nothing is impossible. The word itself says, “I’m Possible.” This cancer is just a chapter in your life. It is not your whole story. You have an incredible future ahead of you and we cannot wait to see where life takes you! Keep giving this fight your all!

DIPHENOXYLATE-ATROPINE is an oral pill to stop severe diarrhea. Chemotherapy can wreak havoc on all internal systems and you can become severely dehydrated if you can’t keep things inside. Mayoinic.org states: “Diphenoxylate and atropine combination is used along with other measures (eg, fluid and electrolyte treatment) to treat severe diarrhea. Diphenoxylate helps stop diarrhea by slowing down the movements of the intestines. Diphenoxylate is chemically related to some narcotics and may be habit-forming if taken in doses that are larger than prescribed. Common treatments include surgery, which involves removing the tumor and surrounding tissue, chemotherapy, which uses drugs to kill cancer cells, radiation therapy, which uses high-energy beams to target and destroy cancer cells, and immunotherapy, which boosts the body’s immune system to fight cancer. Additionally, targeted therapy focuses on specific molecules involved in cancer growth, hormone therapy is used to treat cancers that are hormone-sensitive, and stem cell transplantation is used to replace diseased bone marrow with healthy stem cells. However, the cost of these treatments can be significant, encompassing hospital stays, medications, surgeries, and follow-up care. Despite the challenges, there’s hope in advancements in research and treatments, as well as the resilience of individuals and their support networks.
