🇫🇷 Si nous avons décidé de reconstituer une compagnie d'ordonnance, c'est pour pouvoir reconstituer tous les "types" de soldats qu'on peut rencontrer à la fin du XVe siècle. En effet, par envie ou sensation de sécurité, énormément de reconstituteurs portent une armure complète (Trop) En effet, si effectivement les chevaliers (et les hommes d'armes sous l'ordonnance) portent l'armure de plate, ils restent l'élite militaire et ne représentent qu'une partie des soldats qu'on peut croiser sur les champs de bataille. La majorité des combattants étaient peu voir partiellement armurés. C'est pour donner de la visibilité à ces combattants que nous avons décidé de reconstituer une compagnie d'ordonnance. En effet, en plus des hommes d'armes à l'armure de plate et au casque coiffé de plumes, nous avons également des personnages 'low statut' comme des piquenaires, des couleuvriniers... 🇬🇧 We decided to reenact an ordinance company so that we could re-enact all the 'types' of soldiers you might encounter at the end of the 15th century. Indeed, out of envy or a sense of security, many re-enactors wear full armour (too much). Although the knights (and the men-at-arms under the ordinance) wore plate armour, they were still the military elite and represented only a fraction of the soldiers you might come across on the battlefield. The majority of combatants were lightly or even partially armed. It was to give these soldiers a higher profile that we decided to reconstitute an ordinance company. Il nous était inconcevable d'aborder la reconstitution de la vie au XVe siècle sans prendre en compte l'aspect religieux et spirituel, tant celà faisait partie intégrante de la société médiévale. D'où la présence d'un clerc au sein de notre association (certes parfois dévergondé...) Il est assez drôle de constater que plusieurs membres des Genz de Rubempré ne sont absolument pas croyants ni pratiquants; pourtant ils se plient à l'exercice, ce qui leur permet de se plonger encore plus profond dans le personnage qu'ils incarnent 🇬🇧 Today is Palm Sunday, celebrating Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. Palm Sunday opens Holy Week, the week leading up to Easter. In the 15th century, Easter was the most important Christian festival. It was inconceivable for us to approach the reconstruction of life in the 15th century without taking into account the religious and spiritual aspect, so integral was this to medieval society. Hence the presence of a cleric in our association (albeit one who was a bit promiscuous at times...). Pour ceux qui l'ignorent, le pantalon de la fin du XVe siècle que l'on nomme "chausses" s'attache au doublet (sorte de gilet) par des cordons de laine au bout ferré qu'on nomme aiguillettes. On porte plutôt une espèce de salopette qu'un pantalon et un gilet; en effet, les chausses ne tiennent pas à la taille comme un pantalon moderne mais sont attachées au doublet. Il suffirait de couper les aiguillettes pour se retrouver défroqué. 🇫🇷 Bohémond a l'honneur de porter la bannière du duc Charles Certains visiteurs nous interpellent parfois pour s'étonner de retrouver des fleurs de lys sur la bannière de Bourgogne. Fleurs de lys qu'ils associent au roi de France ⚜️ Et ils ont raison! En effet, les fleurs de lys sur la bannière de Bourgogne viennent du blason de Philippe le Hardi, le premier duc de Bourgogne, qui était lui-même le fils du roi de France Jean II. Philippe le Hardi avait donc pour blason les lys de son roi de père avec une bordure "componée d'argent et de gueules" qui permettait de différencier son blason de celui de son père, ou de ses frères qui portaient eux aussi les lys de France avec une "brisure" qui permettait de l'identifier. Ce qui explique qu'on retrouve aussi les lys français sur les blasons des ducs de Bourbon, de Berry et d'Anjou 📸 Mario Dragon Photography (n'hésitez pas à aller voir son album sur la fête de Corroy-le-Château!) 🇬🇧 Bohémond has the honour of carrying Duke Charles' banner Visitors sometimes ask us to explain why they are surprised to see fleurs-de-lys on the Burgundy banner. Flowers of the lily they associate with the King of France ⚜️ And they're right! In fact, the fleurs-de-lys on the Burgundy banner come from the coat-of-arms of Philip the Bold, the first Duke of Burgundy, who was himself the son of King John II of France. Philip the Bold's coat of arms therefore featured the lilies of his father the king, with a bordure "compony argent and gules" to distinguish his coat of arms from that of his father, or his brothers, who also bore the lilies of France with a "brisure" to identify them.
