The Edge, located in the Hudson Yards neighborhood of Manhattan is an architectural marvel and outdoor observation deck that offers a breathtaking view of the city. It stands at a staggering height of 1,131 feet (345 meters) above sea level, making it one of the highest observation decks globally, and visible from many neighborhoods throughout the city. The entire observation deck was assembled in Italy, upside-down, before being disassembled and shipped to Newark. From Newark, it was loaded onto a barge and transported across the Hudson River. Many of the Academy Movies are available to stream but for movie lovers NYC has an abundance of viewing options, which means you can easily watch a large majority of the Oscar-nominated feature films at the cinema. Every year I have the same goal, to catch all of the Best Picture noms before tuning into the Oscars on March 10 — and the line-up this year is absolutely bonkers. I also really adore attending movies at the Village East which was once a part of the former Yiddish Theatre District built in 1925 to 1926 by Louis Jaffe. The cinema has a rich history of hosting Yiddish theater, off-Broadway shows, burlesque, and midnight movies. When you visit take your time checking out the architecture. A DELICIOUS NYC PIZZA!! Did I get your attention? L’Industrie Pizzeria is one of those trendy pizza joints in Williamsburg, Brooklyn that made the rounds on social media for a while. I rarely go to Williamsburg. Not that it’s not lovely and cool. It’s just not very convenient for me to get to. Thankfully, L’Industrie just opened a second pizza joint right in the heart of the West Village on Christopher Street! My friend Erin, who was visiting with her kids Sam and Harper, texted me and said, “WE HAVE TO TRY THIS PLACE!” And so we did… I have MY pizza place in the city. I’ve told you about it before (NY Pizza Suprema). But I’m always eager to sample others. L’Industrie Pizzeria was delicious and is now in my TOP 5 for sure. While it didn’t take over my top spot, I will add this to my regular slice place stops. The crust was crispy. The cheese was gooey. It just enough grease to require a light dab with a napkin (that’s the right way.) And it rated high on “foldability” – how you eat pizza in NYC for the novices. Is the TENEMENT MUSEUM any good? (I get asked this a lot.) I say YES! I love the Tenement Museum. It’s kind of amazing that it exists in the first place. Its founders stumbled upon 97 Orchard Street — a dilapidated tenement building that had been shuttered and untouched for more than 50 years. Although the building was in ruins, they uncovered personal belongings and other evidence of the families that called those apartments home between the 1860s and 1930s. These artifacts and the families who owned them became the foundation for the Tenement Museum. The Museum pieced together the stories of the Jewish, Chinese, Italian, and Puerto Rican immigrant families who lived in the building and turned them into immersive guided tours. It feels so real. That’s because it is, of course. You are in the spaces where these families lived. They have several tours to choose from -- all fascinating. A reservation is a must as tour groups are small due to limited space in the building. I would NOT recommend this for little kids. It’s a rich listening experience for sure. Lots of storytelling and interaction. The Tenement Museum is located at Orchard and Delancey Streets in the Lower East Side.
