Slay the Spire Slay the Spire is a cooperative deck building game where you have to defeat several minions before you can fight the End Boss. In the meanwhile, on your way to that End Boss, you will go on an adventure track where you can trigger events, fight more nemesis for bonuses, get treasures or cards to improve your deck. For me, the most exciting element of Slay the Spire is that when you can improve your deck, you will draw 3 cards and choose 1. Sometimes it's an obvious choice, more often it's a dilemma 🤔 The toughest part was to get your deck thinner. Imperial Settler's presents 🥁🥁🥁 Imperial Miners! I'm a big fan of Imperial Settler's: Empires of the North. At least, the solo mode. Reason enough to see what Imperial Miners has to offer. The solo mode has the exact same rules as a mo-game, which would tell you that there is no player interaction, turns can be executed simultaneously and you can really focus on your own tableau/engine. Imperial Miners is a pretty straightforward combo game. Each round starts with an event going off. Then you will reveal a card from your hand to build in it's corresponding level (connecting to previous played cards), activate it and every card on your way to the surface. Thus trying to score coins and points. And maybe even advance on some civilization tracks for some bonus features. This you will do 10 times and whoever has the most points, wins! I think Imperial Miners is a fun game. The events can give you nice but small bonuses. The civilization tracks can give some bigger bonuses. The cards and the combinations of benefits are nice. A game won't last 30min and is enough fun to play several games in a row (I have 🤗). The thing I missed were goals. Tiny Epic Vikings This week's new-to-me game I want to put in the spotlight is: Tiny Epic Vikings 🪓 Seeing so many Tiny Epic Games floating by on IG I took an interest in this line of games and put Tiny Epic Vikings on my wishlist last year. A friend of mine gave it to me and came by to play some games this week. I prepared the rules but didn't play a solo game to get more familiar with the game, so we had (almost) the same chances of winning. The first play was a practice / learnig play 📖. Not all rules were clear to us both, plus we still had to figure out the right strategy for all possible actions and card. So we decided to play a second game, which we both enjoyed very much 🤗. Tiny Epic Vikings is a small games with small actions, but with a lot of choices and enough depth to recommend it to my friend. About this week Half way through February and having a blast playing games. I thought things would slow down every since I started my new job and having a baby end September. Nothing is less through. January was one of my busiest gaming months ever and February will show over a 100 plays, I'm sure. This week, not counting the weekend, I've revisited some oldies, but goodies. GWT hit the table on Tuesday (not a big fan unfortunately 🙈), Splendor is a big hit since I bought it around Christmas. World Wonders Last week I got the chance to play World Wonders from Zé Mendes and published by @arcanewonders Although the kickstarter peeked a lot of interest, I couldn't be tempted to back it. I think it is a good game. It brings you more than just tile placement, it also has tracks to invest in and monuments to get for coverage and points. Who doesn't love tracks and/or points? 🤷🏼 I think the monuments look really cool (all are unique) and give you something extra on your player board without overdoing it. Brass: Birmingham Some of you might have noticed Bras: Birmingham has reached the #1 position at BGG for 'best game of all time'. Some Dutch people might have read the new @whitegoblingames will publish a Dutch version 👏🏼 Brass: Birmingham is definately a top 10 (maybe top 3? 🤔) for me. I can never play this game enough and I have seen there is an unofficial solo mode. So I've printed and cut the automa cards and have played the easy and medium difficulty levels. It put me to work and I must say, it feels pretty natural, like playing a 2p-game. You really need to keep up. Only downside I see is the upkeep. I noticed I forgot to remove resources form the market for the Automa's turn, but I guess this will be easier the more I play it. Gugong Picked up this beauty about 1,5 year ago and finally got to play it thanks to a teach of a friend 🙈 I really like the action selection. Each card has a number on it. You will play a card from your hand and switch it with one of those on the board. The card taken will be in your hands next round. The section where you place the card from your hand will dictate your action. Some cards give you bonus actions and if the card from your hand is lower than the card taken, you must pay extra to perform the action chosen. It's a Wonderful Kingdom For a long time I have enjoyed It's a wonderful world, especially it's solo module, but I've only played the Quest Module and Advisors Module, never the Menage Module. So I set myself a challenge: 4 characters, 4 threats and a minimum score of 75 to beat a threat. It took 8️⃣ plays to defeat the Giant Rats, 1️⃣2️⃣ plays to defeat the Frost Giants, 6️⃣ plays to defeat the Shadows and 5️⃣ plays to defeat the Thieves with all characters. It's a Wonderful Kingdom is game where you need to find and build an engine for production and hope you will draft and are able to pick the cards that fit your engine to score points. We hebben een aantal spellen gespeeld die nieuw waren voor ons beide (Alarún, Tucana Builders en Wonder Woods) 🆕 Daarnaast heb ik hem kennis laten maken met Patchwork, Aquatica, Splendor, Flamecraft en Memoir '44. Patchwork speelden we zelfs 2x, maar het absolute hoogtepunt voor hem was Memoir. Noria This game has caught my ete ever since I started exploring game to get deeper into the hobby. The artwork and components look amazing. It gives me a feeling of Peter Pan's Neverland; a pure and peaceful fantasy. And to be honest, it's fair to say it is a tough cookie to crack. You can invest in 4 four different tracks, but how they will score may vary. They bot will try to take points away from you while increasing it's own tracks. You need to be one (or two) steps in front of the bot to win, which is hard to do! Khora: Rise of an Empire After 19 month sitting on the shelf (not a record) she finally found her way to the table 👏🏼 With some motivation from a friend, who wanted to play this game, I started unpunching and reading the rules. Well written in a short and structured way 👌🏼 Layed it out on the table and got excited just by looking at it and knowing what the gameplay would be. Once we played it, we immediately gave it another try and another! Discussing the game after each play made it very clear that Khora has a high replayabilty. 7 or 8 different city tiles that give you assymetrical abilities. The politic cards have some great (immediate or ongoing) effect that support your city tile or give you an extra focus for scoring points. Awesome game. Can't wait to play it again! Ducosim First time Ducosim, a Dutch board game fair. A very small and friendly fair organized in a theater (swipe to the end to get an impression of the atmosphere). We've seen some interesting prototypes and played several games. Highlight was Viscounts of the West Kingdoms. Biggest suprise was Wild Space (took it home after playing). Also bought Terracotta Army @koningbordspel.nl for a special price. Special mention: I went with a professional marine, so when I saw Memoir '44 I had to introduce it to him. Glimps This weekend was full of board games. I tought and played my own copy of Scythe for the first time at home. Planned so many times, but everytime something comes in between. It's also not a game I'll take lighty. I really have to sit down with it and dig deep into the rules and gameplay. Really want to understand it thoroughly before I teach it to others. I want to play it so badly I even put it on my 10x10. First few plays will be solo (print & play) though. I picked myself up with some smaller games during our vacation in Andalusia and set some new challenges too 💪🏼 This week I played some awesome games. Lost Ruins is a all time favorite for Jess and me. She doesn't like It's a Wonderful Kingdom, but I love the solo 🥰 I set a challenge to play all possible solo modes with bot A & B sides of the starting 2 duchy cards.💪🏼 Absolute new to me and very enjoyable is Scarface 1920where you play a mobb boss during the prohibition. Some assymetrical player powers, area control, hand management/deck building and resource manegement.
