Welcome to my page! We have gained a handful of new followers so it’s only right to reintroduce myself. My name is Jacinta. I am a proud Biripi/ Birpai contemporary artist living on the Mid North Coast. My other strong heritage is being Czechoslovakian and I express that through my abstract art. I have always had a passion for the arts and the past 3 years I have been enjoying creating things that speak to me from within. I am red green colourblind but I use this to my advantage by creating pieces mostly containing black and white and focusing on shapes and patterns. The people are my muse. My dream is to travel the world sharing my artworks to major galleries and having my artworks displayed in peoples homes across the globe. I love architecture and interior design and think they go amazingly hand in hand. I hope to collaborate with those types of designers and share my pieces in their creations. I want people to feel inspired by what I create and hopefully help them start their own journey towards art in their own way. Some fun facts about me: 1. I was a dancer of 22 years 2. Having been lucky enough to be born and raised on Biripi land, it took moving overseas the past 6 years to realise how special that was. The connection I feel to the place and the people has never felt stronger, and the ever present pull of home thumps in my chest everyday. I have under 150years of Biripi land in me, my Indigenous Sisters and Brothers have over 60000 years. I can’t even imagine what that connection is like or what it would have felt like to start having it ripped away when the first fleet came. Celebrating who we think we are on a day that actually highlights the worst of where we came from, In my eyes is no day for celebrating. Today I’ll instead pause and spend a moment reflecting on the mass genocide caused by my ancestors to my country’s people, I’ll pledge to continue to educate myself on the past and on the issues that face all aboriginal people today and I will celebrate the amazing influences one of the worlds richest cultures has had on my life. Today was a beautiful day at Saltwater. On my country, Biripi Country. As I walked across the lagoon to the dance ground I could physically feel the connection and welcome to country. I could hear our Gathang language singing out over the people as they danced, the drone of the didgeridoo and the tapsticks proudly ringing out in rhythm. I saw my people come together as one with other Aboriginal nations. I saw non-Aboriginal people showing their love and support for our people. I was proud of my family standing strong and singing and dancing and playing their hearts out. Will never forget this day. A seed of hope was planted, a seed of healing and strength. We had a great day at 'Killabakh Day in the Country' Market yesterday. We don't do many markets/art shows but this one is special and we have had a market stall there most years for over 20 years. Beautiful local people, a gorgeous renovated hall cradled in the mountains behind Wingham on my country, Biripi country. Pictured here is my dad Russell and my mother Laraine. It was a real family event for us this year with my niece Lilly and nephew Jayden joining my parents, my husband Dave and I. There is nothing like the cool welcoming embrace of the ocean. Feeling the gentle tug of the waves as they leave the shore beckoning you to take a step deeper into the water. 🌊 - This painting is part of my 'Saltwater' series. I really wanted to capture the movement and feeling of the water. Combining dots and swells of colour to mimic the waves crashing and receding from the shore. These cheeky little geckos are now available in store at Deep Water Shark Gallery. They are handbuilt in clay, fired, and finished with acrylic paint. I have been sculpting in clay since I was a young girl, learning by watching my father Russell Saunders create Australian animals and reptiles effortlessly. My father started his art career working with clay, and today you can see his natural flow and movement has passed on to his paintwork and wood carvings. For me the geckos he created always sparked joy in me, so these are my expressions of cheeky little geckos. I've been making these for over 20 years and they still make me smile.
