In this exhibition by Amy Jane Scully, the artist explores ‘Colour Scores’; arrangements of found colour – sea-tumbled plastic, glass, beach, bush and urban debris. These colour scores evoke emotional soundscapes with their intensity, transforming discarded pieces into colour fields, a swirling spectrum of detritus. Kunst Macht Frei (Arta te va elibera) 📍Instalație a artistului polonez Grzegorz Klaman, aflată la MOCAK (Muzeul de Artă Contemporană Cracovia) 📝 Pe semnul de deasupra porții de la intrarea în Auschwitz, cuvântul “Arbeit” a fost înlocuit cu “Kunst”. Sugestia este că, așa cum munca nu a făcut pe nimeni liber “acolo”, tot așa arta nu va face pe nimeni liber “aici”. Este o ironie la adresa condiției artistului, folosind un simbol istoric în alt context. 🔎 Expresia “Arbeit macht frei” (“Munca te eliberează”) își are originile în titlul unui roman din 1873 al filologului german Lorenz Diefenbach, intitulat “Arbeit macht frei: Erzählung von Lorenz Diefenbach”. În acest roman, jucătorii și escrocii găsesc calea către virtute prin muncă. Fraza a fost folosită ulterior de naziști ca slogan cinic deasupra porților de intrare ale mai multor lagăre de concentrare, inclusiv Auschwitz, unde a devenit un simbol al înșelăciunii și cruzimii regimului. Fraza amintește, de asemenea, de principiul german medieval “Stadtluft macht frei” (“aerul urban te face liber”), care se referea la ideea că iobagii își puteau câștiga libertatea după ce trăiau într-un oraș timp de un an și o zi. Going to the cinema can be an experience as tender as watching a lotus blossom open. First there is the darkness, which opens our senses, listening, feeling, hearing that music. It comes from all around, that wrap around sound. As the wind blows, as the seasons change we see her journey through……..we glimpse into her life. The trees whisper, and the train hugs the coast of Japan, until she arrives in her mother’s arms. Without use of legs, her mother learns again how to walk. Simultaneously we get to see him thumb through books on the shelve, selecting self help books for his friend on PMS at his therapist’s office for Panic attacks. Soon we see him flying through the air, we’re feeling that air reach his face, as it straight away rushes past. Riding the white bike, which she washed and scrubbed, delivering it to his door to free him from his panic prison. Continued below 🎥🖤✨

On 20 April, in the third session of Sixi Screening Project, a discussion on the recognition and definition of woman’s identity unfolded through the screening of two classic Chinese silent films by Ruan Lingyu, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘰𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘴 (1934) and 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 (1935). Through the images, we see Shanghai in the 1930s, a miraculous city, the enormous wealth gap between rich and poor, prostitutes struggling to make a living, mothers enduring for their children, women battling against male domination and class oppression, a new generation of women pursuing higher education, freedom of love, and economic independence. 💬 After the screening, Lucia Lu, assistant professor at the school of cultural technology of Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, spoke to the audience about how women’s identities were shaped and transformed in film history, as well as the rights and freedoms that the feminist movements have brought to women from the 19th century to the present day. From the time of New Women until today, women continue to face similar discriminatory and unjust situations, what substantial achievements have these nearly 100 years of feminism and the struggle for equal rights between men and women actually brought to women in our time? The initial intention of Sixi Screening Project is to construct a dialogue concerning social issues and changes between imagery and the audience.
