Day 29: Trick or Treat for #dolltober2023 by @salem_sisterhood Always check your candy.🍭 Swipe for the aftermath Ai and Konnar had to handle. Bea and Lina are enthusiastic trick or treaters and Tao is experiencing Halloween for the first time. Bea decided **specifically** on being Amenhotep (kids, man), Lina wanted to be a Princess and Tao decided pirates are cool, despite the bird always falling off his shoulder. I could never get mine to stay either. They became ex-parrots quickly and ceased to be, usually in the bottom of the pillowcase with the Whoppers, Mounds and Fun Dip. Part 8: Welcome, Tao! Sitting heavily on the seat Owen vacated, Konnar sighed. Ai had texted him; they were almost home. Behind him, he could hear Adrian and Christina laughing, Ben's deep laugh following. He heard Owen say something but couldn't make it out, wondering when Ai would be home. Hands shaking, he redid his hair and swallowed a lump. He was nervous, he couldn't help it. His neck was sweaty. Every nerve was on edge. Had he agreed to this to only let danger into the home? What was this boy like? How connected was he to Ai? What was he even doing? What would happen? The self-doubt ate at him for the first time in a long while and he hated it, his ears buzzing with it. "Konnar?" He turned to see Lina. "You okay?" She asked. "Nothing for you to worry about, kiddo. Everything all ready?" She nodded and he saw her little brow furrow deeply. "What is it?" Konnar asked. "Um...just because he will be here doesn't mean I'm um...I..." She swallowed, and Konnar read her face immediately. He smiled and drew her close for a tight hug. "YOU aren't going anywhere." He kissed her forehead. Shortly after, everyone came outside to relax, the sun moving behind the trees and making it comfortable and cool. The birds singing and the breeze made lovely music to their party, Ben bringing out a radio to add some rock music for a soundtrack. "They're here!" Bea squealed, climbing out from under the table. She watched as Ai led a tall, pale boy with wide eyes over to them, Lina remaining by Konnar. Ai said something in Cantonese, speaking next in English, introducing him as Tao. His eyes met Konnars and Konnar took a breath. Bea smiled, looking at Lina. Changes part 3 💙 It was a beautiful day, and finally, there was time to set up some kits the girls were given for Easter. School was officially out! Their adventures that morning also included a local flea market where Ben had discovered a bin of My Little Ponies that needed some love. Long Weekend part 1 🍃 Ai sat down on the chair to wait for Konnar. They were going up to see Vince and Lee for the weekend and get away for a little bit. Konnar also had an appointment in New York City that he needed to wrap up, so they'd kill two birds with one stone as the saying goes. Ai heard shuffling at the door and saw Lina. He smiled and she walked over, a slight frown on her face. He asked her if she was okay and she told him that she'd gotten into a fight with another girl at school. She didn't like the girls at school because they didn't like the same things she did. She found Bea to be a much better playmate despite being younger. Ai smiled and listened, reassuring her that kids were very different and liked lots of different things. She asked him out of the blue if he'd ever been bullied in school, and Ai nodded, telling her a few stories about the kids that would make fun of him because of his eyes. There were a few kids as he got older that stopped talking to him for no real reason he could understand. Ai felt the lump come to his throat as he remembered, and Lina noticed, her eyes getting bigger. It was not an odd question, for sure, yet Ai wasn't sure what he'd encountered was bullying or fear from them. She asked if he was okay, and he smiled, masking his discomfort and the bad memories. Konnar made a noise from the doorway and Lina walked over, hugging him. Ai put on his jacket, trying to shake off the bad feelings as Lina happily told Konnar what they were going to do this weekend. Christina was watching them; she'd taken some time off too and wanted to spend it with the girls. Ai heard Bea happily open the door, greeting Christina as she hugged her. Bea's excited laugh made Ai smile too. Snow day! Part 5 💙❄️💙❄️ Despite being tired from the snow, Bea and Lina wanted to hang out and get cozy. Ben and Adrian braved the evening to go see their parents, so they had the house to themselves. After dinner, Konnar and Ai let the girls change into pajamas, and they settled in to watch a movie. As soon as Bea began to pout and rub her eyes, Lina nodded off on Konnar's lap. Ai and Konnar grabbed the girls and brought them to their rooms. As Ai stayed behind to tuck them in, Konnar went back to the living room to clean up the art supplies and left over snacks. He frowned, thinking about what he'd want to say if he had to say it. He worried if he could... A few minutes passed. He looked up as a shadow passed between the lamp and him; Ai was standing there with an envelope and tears in his eyes, threatening to fall down his cheeks. Taking a breath, Konnar nodded and asked Ai what was wrong. Ai's lower lip trembled once, and he moved closer, the envelope in his pale hand. Snow day! 💙❄️🌨 Part 2 Despite it getting cold out again and threatening more snow, they stayed outside laughing, everyone making snow angels and getting wet making and smashing snow people and snow balls. Bea came over to help get her gloves back on, both girls running back and forth as they chased Adrian and Ben in the snow. Ai watched a few minutes, and his heart grew sadder with each minute. Bea's papers were in his bag. How could he tell Bea and have Lina there? He felt so guilty. Konnar got up from the bench and walked over, realizing Ai was deep in thought and hadn't even noticed his pants were now soaked, as were his boots. "How did it go?" Ai said nothing, yet his lower lip trembled, and he nodded. Konnar sighed. He ran his tongue over his teeth and nodded, stepping closer. Extending a hand, he helped Ai stand up, brushing snow from him. Ai's hands were so cold and Konnar knew he could be thinking the same thing that was going through Konnar's mind too... "Come on. It's colder out now and I bet those two are icicles. Let's get inside." Smiling, Konnar kissed his forehead.
