I mentioned a few weeks ago that in downsizing to the townhouse I went from 13 kitchen drawers to 2.5. My solution? Baskets on top of the upper cabinets. 2 make up my previous junk drawer. One holds my grill tools. Another all of the warranties & booklets to various appliances. It may not be a high end designer kitchen but we are enjoying the downsizing. #organizing #organizationideas

Hubby and I went to a family wedding in southern Indiana in early June and decided to make a mini vacay of it. Did brunch and a river cruise on the Belle of Louisville. Always enjoy time trying new things but it was quite chilly Memorial Day weekend AND Kentucky was still quite shut down so no bourbon trail for us. 😢

Update: we have settled into our temporary townhouse and I had posted about the wall color. I picked up a chair at (gasp!) Homegoods to fill in this corner. The better stuff will come when the house is built but I just L❤️VE this mustard yellow with my Benjamin Moore Bali walls. And random kitty toys I throw back down the stairs each morning…
When the cabinets came in the wrong color we had to pivot!! I showed Mrs. Client how we could still make these work with a different back splash. And how black grout would enhance the design vs. a lighter grout that would disappear. From the Preston Lake Basement in 2019. One of my favorite projects!

Moving in to our new home over the past couple weeks. I had the main areas painted Benjamin Moore’s “Bali” (702). Still a mountain of unpacking to do. Downsizing from 3000 square feet to 1400 isn’t easy. I’m going from 13 kitchen drawers to 3! I’ll share my creative solutions later... I presented hubby with several color palettes and this was what he picked. I’m loving it!!

About 4 years ago I bought some pink Peonies to plant. Told hubby about them but evidently I speak with an accent and he thought I said pink PANTIES. We laugh about that often now but this is the first year I’ve gotten blooms. Cut them and brought them into the kitchen to enjoy. Y’all know I have a black thumb so this is a happy day! Monday Madness! Last week I got my 2nd vaccine shot, spent a day in bed recovering, then shopping with my client for the #barringtonkitchen project all day Friday. On Saturday we threw a #babyshower for my oldest daughter. Now that the house is under contract, the realization that it may be the last time all 5 of us were here together made my eyes watery. 😢 This photo of my 3 babies (and future granddaughter) reminded me of the 13-ish First Day of School pics I’ve taken of my trio. Wishing everyone a Happy Monday as my phone and email continue blowing up on this first day back in the office. So much to do! So many Blessings!

Floor refinishing in the #BarringtonKitchenProject is complete and Drywall will go in this weekend. As always working with @mintconstructionva is fantastic. Estimated Completion Date April 9th. Mr. & Mrs. client living in the basement for now 😢 but it will be worth it in the end.

This was the project that almost (emotionally) killed me. I seriously contemplated retirement. But the thing is, I love what I do. I can look back now and see where things got off the rails, and appreciate that not everyone is the right client for me. My sweet assistant @kt_bellz helped me complete this one and solidified a spot in my ❤️. Life hacks: 1- Pay attention to the smell of your home when you come back from a trip - that's what it smells like to guests all the time, you just get used to it. 2- When a friend is upset, ask him one simple question before saying anything else: “Do you want to talk about it or do you want to distract from it? ” 3- Keep inviting that friend who always says No. 4- It is important to know when to stop arguing people, and simply let them be wrong. 5- After a bad break up, do 10 things that your ex would never do with you . You'll feel better and realize how much of yourself was being held back. 6- If you want to learn a new language, figure out the 100 most frequently used words and start with them. Those word make up about 50% of everyday speech, and should be a very solid basis. 7- Librarians aren't just random people who work at libraries. They are professional researchers to help you finding a place to start researching on any topic. 8- Keep a separate master resume with all previous work experience When sending out a resume for a application. Duplicate the file and remove anything that may be irrelevant to the position. You never know when the past experience might become relevant again and you don't want to forget about it. 9- If someone offers you something you want, take it. Don't decline every kind of offer out of Politeness. 10- When buying a blanket, always buy at least one size larger then your bed. It's at least hundred times more comfy. 11- To get an email reply from individuals notorious for not replying, frame your questions so that their lack of reply is a response. 12- Some people aren't good at asking for help because they're so used to being 'The helper'. 13- Little math hack: X% of Y is Y% of X. So if you want to find out what 7% of 50 is, you could instead find out what 50% of 7 is, which is 3.5 . This means that 7% of 50 is also equal to 3.5 . 14- For those youngsters going to college for their first time : GO TO CLASS ! No matter how hungover, tired, or busy you may be, being present is the most important factor for Succeeding in your first year As you adjust to living independently. Missing class is a slippery slope to failing out.

WTF - It's Window Treatment Friday! This masculine bedroom didn't have much impact in the headboard, and due to the small size we had no choice but to put the bed directly under the window. Together with the amazing skills of Heidi at @smithlandcustominteriors this bedroom features a hard cornice with a geometric blue & white print, nailhead trim, and white velvet curtain panels that can be closed if it's a bit too cool under the window. Mr. Client was quite happy with his new bedroom.

Anyone else a total shoe addict? I'll share some of my favorites this week. I think it's because - outside of pregnancy - my feet don't grow anymore, and look cute no matter how much weight I gain. I've started exercising and watching what I eat more especially now that my daughter is a dietitian. As long as my belly doesn't block my view of my shoes, this statement will hold true!
Thursdays are for Mood Board Madness! This was one of the concepts from the Purple Project as I was pulling the colors and fabrics together for Ms. Client to approve. We went a different direction on the rug and nixed the blue chair completely but many of these made it into the final design.

The Preston Lake Basement project needed to carry the architectural style of the upstairs into the additional finished spaces of the home. @mintconstructionva did a fantastic job by creating a simpler version of the gorgeous trim mouldings in the rest of the house. One of my favorite projects to date.

It's Transformation Tuesday! Another space within the Massanutten Project - the new powder room. She loved the "golf" theme of the "Before" but I wanted to elevate the look and feel just a bit. With green plaid wallpaper, Fusion granite, a hammered copper vessel sink (reminded me of a golf ball) and art the client already owned.
