A follow up from our #moldmonday post this week, Citrus Bergamot 🧡 We wish it could be that instantaneous: cutting a slab or soap & banding it a few days later! Why don’t we? When cold process soap is made, the process is called saponification & that process doesn’t finish that quickly! While it’s safe to cut, the bar is still hardening, the lye is saponifying out, & the soap’s qualities are being strengthened! Ideally, it needs to cure, as soap makers call it, for 4-6 weeks at least & that’s what we follow in our shop. Have you ever gotten a bar of soap that disintegrates really quickly or feels mushy? Or a bar that leaves your skin feeling dry or not as moisturized as handmade soap should? Chances are, it may not have been cured properly.
