How do you store your WIP’s? I usually find a suitable vessel and put all my floss colours for that project in, along with some beads or paint. I’m loving all of the art vs artist posts from everyone. I’m one of the stubborn ones - I don’t do trends - I prefer to complicate my life instead! 😀… so I gathered all the art completed in 2023 (minus few items sold or given away) and decided to do a group photo! 😎 • Stats are looking good… I completed most art this year, and almost every project was new to figure out, which adds to the creative suspense 🤨 I’ve got about double the amount of wip’s in different stages of completion and I have to remember that too… 😅 • From a business perspective, it was a sad year for the snail artist 🐌 I have only sold few things, and if it wasn’t for the support of my husband, I would be a little skeleton artist, already starved to death ☠️ 😆 • But it’s ok, it’s the reality of the process of growing as an artist, and I make no secret of the fact that I can make very pretty art, but I’m currently very rubbish at selling it 😅 • There’s a little voice at the back of my head that tells me that this is exactly how it should be, because I need to realize that I’m putting lot of hard work into wrong places. Soooo… the end of year project plan totally went out of the window when I was picked as a juror for a trial. I did not plan for a crime time in December 🤨 • While we are never allowed to talk about the case, the judge wanted everyone to know that serving as a juror is an awesome thing to do, and everyone should do it 😄 If you are someone with anxiety from unusual situations like me, you will not enjoy it so wholeheartedly, but now that it’s done, I’m glad I did it, and had this very unique life experience. • But I’m glad to be adjusting to regular life! Christmas came so quickly for me this year, and I missed all the excitement of the build up to it. I survived yet another Etsy listing last weekend, only to be tackled down by the plague on Monday. How classy.. • My first Covid experience is not a nice one. It has been a rough 4 days. For some reason the progression was extremely fast for me, and very intense. I’m taking it a day at a time. It’s been very up and down. The easiest way to get back to stitching was to finish the second simple design in hot pink! Embroideries that require minimum thinking are really calming to do 😌 I just need to add beads to both of these, frame them in smaller hoops, and finish the backs. I haven’t been feeling too creative recently. I just enjoyed sketching more design ideas and putting off projects 😅 I knew that I needed something very simple to stitch to get me going again... The mystery evil eye that I was working on behind the scenes is complete! 🤩 As you know, there are many different colours of evil eye - each with its own unique attributes and protective qualities. • Despite my sunny disposition, I’m not an exception to life’s fickle ways 🤨 So, I created this super powerful rainbow evil eye to get me through tricky times 😎 It simply protects against all of life’s bullshit 😆 • The middle represents a fluffy glittery cloud. 🥳 Folk evil eyes will be available soon! (when I get into etsy listings mood this week 😆) I love making these! For some reason, 3 always seems like a nice number 😄 But I still have some paint mixed that I don’t want to go to waste, so I will prep some more - even if I don’t get around to stitching them for some time. And I might attempt to make a little wearable pendant too 🤫 • I now try to document how long each step takes, to help me price my work. And sometimes the little things take just as long as the big things 😅 Making one blue folk evil eye takes 11 hours - 7 hours of stitching & 4 hours for mixing paints and adding 3 layers of paint of each colour. Happy Halloween everyone! 🎃 • The Skelly didn’t quite work out, and will be very appropriately heading over to the embroidery graveyard 😆 But that’s ok. There’s always a lot more to learn from failed projects, than from the successful ones. Don’t be afraid of failures 👻 • Skelly looks more like an alien to me than a chilled out skeleton he was supposed to be.
