What sets our Ultimate Collapsible Column apart from all the other automatic columns? All our columns have a chromemoly internal detent to lock/hold the column in each gear position, just like every OEM factory column did for safety. Unlike other aftermarket automatic columns that have only a generic Park position that's not specific to each transmission. What's it mean for you? Your column holds the transmission in correct gear, and you can't accidentally bump into the wrong gear, but more importantly you can pull our column down from say drive to next lower gear like 2nd without risk of sliding into 1st, just like all factory style columns and shifters. Here's one for the Ford Fans đ Our customers' 1982 Ford Falcon XE Phase 6 authorised went through a massive process of work at the workshop. Originally, the car came in for a Holley Sniper fuel injection system to be setup on the 351SBF. After initial inspection of the engines valve train, we found a number of issues associated within the engine, the decision was made to pull the engine, gearbox for a thorough overhaul. The decision was to speak with #jack_bros_engineering & #fatazcompetitionengines to sort a new alloy headed 393ci SBF, we also carried out maintenance on the Ford C6 gearbox while we had it out of the car whilst the engine was being built. From there #autosparkevolution tidied up the wiring, battery relocation to the boot etc. Next up, was setting up the new Wilwood 6 Piston Big Brake Kit to the front of the car & we had #aussibrakelines completely redo the brake lines from front to rear including all hard & flexi lines, rear drop lines. With the engine back, we put the car together, setup the Holley Sniper EFI & fired the 393ci into life. The final step was off to #m1tuning to dial in the tune up. We'll see the car back early next year for more works, followed by a new rear end for the car potentially within the next 12 months.
With a couple more small jobs to finish and pack up, and the couriers picking up daily it's definitely starting to look like Christmas, we'll be looking forward to taking the foot off the pedal soon. Here's 2 little videos showing you get what you pay for and more with our Ultimate Collapsible Column. 2 brand new Columns side by side, one is a well-known US Collapsible Column, with hollow shafts and plastic bushes in the lower half and open to atmosphere, or worse condensation and moisture. The other is ours, and they're pretty much the the same pricing Placing the same steering wheel on them to test internal friction and resistance. The results speak for themselves, an OCD Metalworx Ultimate Collapsible column will always have little to no resistance to turning, even with only gravity and an odd balance steering wheel, ours will roll to the heaviest low point. This means lighter steering effort and more positive feedback from the front end. With no risk of future internal issues as our columns are fully sealed around the shaft with a radial seal protecting all internals, including our bearing with a +600kg dynamic load rating. The other won't turn under the steering wheel weight. It resists turning when turned and stops wherever. It is open to the atmosphere around the shaft and up the middle of it. We have seen the progressive damage this has caused to many factory style and aftermarket Columns with internal rusting causing collapsible sections to nearly seize solid if they haven't already. But if thats cool you can also buy the plastic bushes a spare part from their website thats how confident they are when they wear out. We build it our way because no OEM factory ever built a column with plastic bushes to connect to a rack and pinion or front mount steering box with intermediate shafts, we look to exceed expectations not be average or below. Tuesday is once again tube-day. This time, it's the shift tube. It's the not so glamorous part of an automatic collapsible column shift, but it's integral to the safety and function of our design. 3 tube sections and a key, 6 cutting operations, 4 swaging operations to change diameters, 3 facing and turning op's to an exact size, 2 drilling op's in indexer on mill, 2 welding operations and assembly with load cell and data logger. If it passes to this point, it's tested for straightness and torque tested to 60Nm with all data recorded in a database. This is all for a part you see less than 1% of in the column when finished. I suppose this is what happens when you are the only manufacturer in the southern hemisphere doing Brand New RHD collapsible automatic columns for Aussie cars, and this part is all done in-house.
