A friend told me about a podcast to listen to called OnBeing with Krista Tippett (I'm sure I'm the last person to catch onto this one!). One episode had an interview with Christiana Figueres, a Costa Rican diplomat on ecological hope, and spiritual evolution. Christiana was a key person in helping get the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change in place - no small feat. It made me appreciate the importance of not giving up on our future. There are so many good things being done to help look after the planet that we just don't hear about, because let's face it - the media doesn't really do 'good news', but change is around us. I made this wreath for a graveside memorial. It is made using naturally dried florals tied with natural twine to a grapevine base. It features lavender, hydrangea, clematis, statice, emile and varieties of eucalyptus. The design is a great option for those who want the flowers at the grave to continue looking good for a long time as the flowers won’t wilt as they are already dried. Instead they will just fall apart over time and continue looking beautiful with the base of eucalyptus slowly becoming the feature. And of course, for those of us who want to avoid adding chemicals and plastics into the earth, this natural wreath is perfect. Big beautiful kitchen and living area as well as additional lounge and co-working study, 8 bedrooms, huge dam situated on 10 acres, 5kms from Castlemaine train station. The place holds a vision for long-term secure share housing with a very low footprint. People interested in living with us will be the kind of people who are excited about living and working with others to homestead, grow majority of food at home, willing to be host community eventa, be committed to communication, and also emotionally responsible. We will have a 90 minute meeting each week alternating between a logistics based meeting and a heart share based meeting along with fortnightly commitment to working, cooking for everyone a night a week and food/resource sharing. It's a big brave step and not for the faint-hearted but for those willing to make steps towards changing the way we live and relearning how to live together. Desired commitment us 12 months but there's some flexibility for the right person/people. There is a formal lease agreement in place, initially for 1 year and then 5 years. We are currently 10 adults, 3 kids and a dog. PAARRRRTTYYYY!!! Thats right, there's an awesome street party with music, dancing, community activities and amazing people!!! After seeing the epic talent at the Castlemain Pride picnic, I'm super pumped for this weekend's lineup!!! Plus, Castlemaine's a gorgeous place and its going to be even more epic this weekend during this fantastic event where the streets come alive with colour and music from 11am to 11pm. I'll be near an amazing pronoun badge making stall offering free badge making to everyone, so pop by my stall where there are free lazer paper cut-outs, pencils, textas, glue and sparkly stuff available to use when making your badges!!! I'll have my market stall setup available during the event, but you might need to wave me over when something grabs your eye because I'll probably be easily distracted helping people decorate their badges!!! Castlemaine Pride spoke to Mandy Connell, one of the artists performing at Taproom Tribute: a Local Pride Edition happening this Friday 26th April. It’s going to be an electrifying evening of voices that defy boundaries! What are you bringing to Pride? Mandy: I'm bringing some songs I've learned for Friday at the Tap Room for this event- by some legends I admire. Great Aunt (Bathurst, formerly Melbourne), This Way North (Yackandandah, and these legends know how to advocate like mofos) Judy Small, a folk Legend i grew up listening to who writes badass activist songs, and Jen Cloher who I learned a bunch about the music industry from. Also a song called Scott and Jamie by Fred Small (technically he's NZ but that's practically local). I'm a songwriter too and mostly I do my own thing, but this is a fun project. What other event are you most excited about seeing? Mandy: I am super happy to see Maggie Rigby and Lloyd Dodsworth tomorrow night, because Maggie is some kind of super power of a writer and singer. Her more recent solo stuff is staggering and sent me back to listen again to the Maes records. Lloyd Dodsworth is a funny and lovely guy who plays a helluva mean guitar. WIth a little luck he'll get up to play some with me on the night. What excites you about the future of LGBTQIA+ diversity and/or visibility in your community? Mandy: Queer activism has close ties with the folk music scene that I know and love- queer visibility and unity with Pride is a part of the sense of social justice and inclusion which makes me feel safer and happier and more welcome and more 'home'. I think a community which supports and celebrates Pride is a support for us all. Pride and celebration is a fun, innovative and inclusive way to be 'us'.
