I wanted to rely completely on my intuition, I wanted the emotions to be in the foreground. It's a documentary approach, but the working method and results are very personal. I've always dealt with war and the significance of war in Eastern Europe in my previous series, so it wasn't difficult to get into the subject. Because I just captured moments with my friends, depicting what we were doing. It was a bit more like caught-in-the-moment snapshots. The idea was to create this sort of looming presence, hinting at it, but not showing it. To commemorate the end of an era, John will be hosting a social evening event at his studio on the 27th March with first option of tickets exclusive to IMAA Members. The ticket price covers some light refreshments and drinks. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase signed polaroids from Gollings archive. - For the past 40 years, John Gollings has been making pictures of architecture. His work records the progress of modern architecture. Many of the photographs we see published in books and magazines are the work of Gollings. John’s pictures are amongst the most reproduced and have helped shape our perceptions of modern Australian architecture.
