So a few time a week I walk the 15 mins to school to pick up the twins and we walk home together - it’s special as I always bring them a sugary treat/lollypop to motivate them walking and we play fun guessing games and I hear about their day without distractions … a few weeks back I didn’t have treats at home so I walked via the local woolies to pick something up . As I have mentioned before , I’m really struggling with pram and guide dog so this day Freya was on harness and I wore Violet on my chest in a sling wrap ( she loves it! ) so when I do this , for extra peace of mind I bring my cane along too just in case as Freya is amazing but isn’t foolproof all the time so I have Frey on my left , and right hand sweeps using cane so god forbid I can’t fall ( and if I did , id break both wrists before ever letting Violet get hurt ) It’s been a while since I have been as self conscious as I was in those aisles … I could feel the stares , hear the whispers , I noticed the intake of breath as I walked pass people and put up with the ‘ can I help you dear?’s’ It’s a horrible feeling of not being trusted to mother your own kids , and people have no clue of my capabilities, they only see my disability. It hurts my heart to think about what is thought about me and my abilities as a mum - and even if people are thinking positively, it’s with a pity, awe or curiosity angle - I even had a lady ask me if she could call anyone to help me ? She asked it with kindness but it hurt like she had spat it at me. Last week was national guide dog day and in the @ballaratcourier , I was featured talking about Freya and I was so pleased to hear the headline ‘ please ignore us ‘ - a quote I gave the journalist - made me smile ! 🥲 Also Vi started food this week - she is pretty happy with herself and already has nailed the widest mouth ever for me to not miss 😂😂 #guidedog #guidedogaustralia #blind #blundmum #legallyblind #disability #disabilityawareness #disabled #inclusion #access #ballarat #ballaratlife #visitballarat #baby #5montha

• Day fifteen of the East Coast Pastry Tour (2024), and almost 300km for the day, but a comfy sleep-in, over an hour with uncle Pete, touching base in person with other folks, and then to Bridgewater-no-pubs-open 🙄 iMaps took me the backroads again, which is fab, and a little alarming when there's no houses and no cars for such a long time. Landed in the caravan park (very nice; would recommend) @bridgewatercaravanpark, pitched the tent still damp from Myrtleford, and scooted 5min down the road. Too early for pub meals there, so bought a bit from the IGA then enquired @inglewoodcafebakehouse and scored a ripper steak sammich with the lot; very nice. Finished that disjointed meal with a red back at camp. Very quiet evening now, having contacted tomorrow's visits in Moama and Swan Hill. If id known about the laundry facilities, I would have bought washing powder.
