On a ‘photog’ adventure I made my first visit to the World Trade Center since well before the tragic events of 9/11. In many ways surreal and introspective. Despite all that, the morning light was fantastic casting contrasting light and shadows through the Oculus and surrounding area. From TripAdvisor This aesthetic transportation hub not only welcomes those visiting the World Trade Center, but serves as a representation of New York City’s strength and resilience after 9/11. Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the Oculus resembles a dove leaving a child’s hands. Every year, on the anniversary of the attacks, the sun shines directly through the skylight and illuminates the main hall. Bridges. The Union Chain Bridge over the Tweed at Paxton was originally constructed in 1820 when it was the first chain bridge and longest suspension bridge in the world at a cost of £7700. It was beautifully restored in 2020. The New Bridge in Berwick is a concrete framed arched structure designed just over 100 years later than the Union Chain Bridge at a cost of £180,000. CALL FOR ENTRIES - HORIZON - LAND, AIR & SEA - INTERNATIONAL LANDSCAPE EXHIBITION - ENTRY DEADLINE MAY 1 The land, the water, the air, each of these elements symbolize different aspects of our earth, coming together where the earth meets the sky at the horizon line. Through a range of photographic interpretations of various topographical regions, HORIZON will encompass various ways of describing and documenting the landscape. Images of the physical land and various interpreted aspects of the earth where the ground meets the air can be found in the wide open spaces and skies. We photograph through the act of observing nature to capture the visual qualities of the physical terrain and intimate details of nature, to find one's connection to a particular environment, to experience fresh air, experience various scenes of land and sea, and simply explore and embrace the landscape.
