Have you ever gotten a pearl at the Mitsukoshi Department Store in the Japan Pavilion in EPCOT? This is one of those great fun discoveries, even if you only watch. (The joy on the faces of the kids when they see their pearl is priceless!) We used to visit the pearl shop by Crescent Lake by the Beach Club Resort too!
Ah, there’s nothing a quiet like a late afternoon stroll in some quiet corner of Walt Disney World. The chance to get away from the hustle and bustle of the parks and simply enjoy the beauty of this wonderful place. It’s been a while since I’ve walked around Barefoot Bay at Caribbean Beach, so peaceful!! Where are YOUR favorite places to walk around at WDW?
The Japan Pavilion in EPCOT has always been one of our favorite places…and one of greatest overlooked attractions is the Bijutsu-Kan Gallery. For many years now it’s been home to the Kawaii exhibit, a fascinating look at how Japan’s Cute Culture can make even the most mundane things adorable. The centerpiece, “Melty Go Round (Harajuku Girl)” is a beautiful piece that has surprising roots in the rich colors found in the 12-layered kimonos worn by court-ladies in Japan. And besides that it’s just neat!! This also gets our vote for one of the most peaceful spots in all of Walt Disney World. The interior of the gallery is so peaceful and serene…it’s a great place to unwind and relax in the middle of a hectic day in World Showcase!
Have you ever seen Figment’s signature in the cement at the Imagination Pavilion?? It used to be opposite the restrooms on the far right of the pavilion, tucked just inside a Cast Member entrance (fortunately you could see it without venturing into said entrance). We saw that it was gone on our last visit, has anyone else noticed? This was always one of our favorite hidden secrets, mostly because it seemed like just the kind of thing that Figment would do!
We just picked up the Figment Little Golden Book and all I can say is “WOW!” This takes us back to our very first visit on the original attraction and brought back so many memories…the Art Room, “What about science?”, the Dreamfinder. If you miss that version too, this is a GREAT way to bring those memories back. And we picked up lots of other Little Golden Books too, what a treasure trove! Speaking of Figment, we’re going to have a BIG announcement soon about a new keepsake book we’re putting together all about the Imagination Pavilion, so stay tuned!! 💜💜💜💛💛💛🧡🧡🧡
Of all our favorite smells in Walt Disney World, I confess this isn’t QUITE up there 😂 (“Oh that really stinks!” Is the phrase that comes to mind.) But here’s a question for everyone: I’ve heard a rumor that once upon a time, a long long time ago, you DID occasionally get a rose smell or something pleasant. Does anyone remember this? Did you experience it? For me it’s always been skunk, but it would be wild if that were true. And if it wasn’t true, I’m thinking a refurbishment is in order!! 🌹🥧🦨
Let’s travel back in time to the millennium celebration in EPCOT! (Wow, it seems like only yesterday…!) IllumiNations, the Millennium Village, Tapestry of Nations (and for better or worse, the wand on Spaceship Earth…not everyone’s favorite I understand, but let’s not forget that for a few years that made Spaceship Earth far and away the TALLEST attraction in all of Walt Disney World!)
