A day on the BNSF in Texas!!🚂🤠🛤️ I spent the day catching BNSF freight trains as they traversed the lonely right of way between DFW and Amarillo, TX. This small single track follows the rolling hills of mid-Texas and features lots of scenic photo opportunities. Here are some of the various trains this quiet mainline saw on this day: Photo 1: A high priority Z fresh out of Alliance accelerates westward after meeting an eastbound counterpart just outside Henrietta, TX. Photo 2: An eastbound Z tackles a small hill just outside Henrietta, TX while finding the only sun that the cloud cover allowed. Photo 3: Two ACes lug a loaded coal train towards DFW east if Henrietta, TX. Photo 4: Two GEVOs brush the outskirts of Wichita Falls as they power a combined intermodal/manifest towards Amarillo. Photo 5: After being tied down for a number of hours in Iowa Park, TX, this hopper train finally made its way east. Henrietta, TX (if you can’t tell by now, I really liked this spot😆) Photo 6: The DPUs of a loaded coal train pass some of the famous Texas wildflowers just outside of Henrietta. Photo 7: A huge storm swirled up during the late afternoon and unleashed a torrent of rain, hail, and thunder and lightning. A Loram Rail grinder makes its way through the Cajon Pass in Southern California in April of 1995. I spent a lot of years railfanning the pass between 1981 and 1995! It's a great place to catch trains and I've been back several times over the years since then. In fact I'm headed back again this coming September for a week or so to see how much it has changed since I was last there several years ago. In fact, it was before I had a drone, so I'm really looking forward to railfanning from the air this next trip! According to Wikipedia: Cajon Pass is a mountain pass between the San Bernardino Mountains to the east and the San Gabriel Mountains to the west in Southern California. Created by the movements of the San Andreas Fault, it has an elevation of 3,777 ft (1,151 m).[1] Located in the Mojave Desert, the pass is an important link from the Greater San Bernardino Area to the Victor Valley, and northeast to Las Vegas. The Cajon Pass area is on the Pacific Crest Trail. Cajon Pass is at the head of Horsethief Canyon, traversed by California State Route 138 and railroad tracks owned by BNSF Railway and Union Pacific Railroad. Improvements in 1972 reduced the railroad's maximum elevation from about 3,829 to 3,777 feet (1,167 to 1,151 m) while reducing curvature. Interstate 15 does not traverse Cajon Pass, but rather the nearby Cajon Summit. The entire area, Cajon Pass and Cajon Summit, is often referred to as Cajon Pass, but a distinction is made between Cajon Pass and Cajon Summit. GVB BN S1/2 61 + xx / Amsterdam Amstel / 15-04-2024 - - Op zaterdag 13 April 2024 nam de GVB (Amsterdam) na 34 jaar trouwe dienst afscheid van de Belgische BN ACEC (Holec) S1/2 metrostellen ookwel “sneltram”. De metro/ tram stellen werden gebouwd te BN Brugge tussen 1990 en 1994 en bestaan uit 2 reeksen: de S1 uit 1990 genummerd van 45 t/m 57 en de S2 uit 1993-1994 genummerd van 60 t/m 69. De sneltrams zijn 2 delig en wegen 46,3 Ton ze zijn 30 meter lang en halen een maximale snelheid van 70 Km/u. Tot 3 Maart 2019 werden ze ingezet op de sneltramlijn 51, hiervoor hebben ze een pantgraaf en een 3e rail aansluiting. Sinds de verbouwing van lijn 51 naar een echte tramlijn werden de sneltrams ingezet op het gehele metronet behalve metro 52 en werd de klassieke GVB livery vervangen door de R-Net kleurstelling. Sinds dien was de pantograaf alsook de klaptreden niet meer nodig. Na de indienststelling van de nieuwe metrotreinstellen type M7 vanaf 2023 werden de stellen van de serie S1-S2 langzamerhand buiten dienst gesteld en afgevoerd. Vanaf februari 2024 reed nog één combinatie van drie stellen in dienst. Op 5 april 2024 reden de drie stellen voor het laatst op de normale reizigersdienst en eindige het BN ACEC tijdperk bij de GVB. Op 13 april vond de afscheidsrit plaats (stellen 59 & 65). BN S2 66 blijft bewaard als museum materieel.
