Cutting porcupine quills tonight… Did you know all my porcupine quill earrings are ethically sourced? (‘Road kill’ sourced to be exact 💀… but extra sanitized I promise!!!) These quills go through many phases of cleaning and sanitizing. They’ve had a bleach bath or two, but are all undyed to show the natural whites and blacks of the quill…which I think is beautiful. This is it...my final GRCO 100 assignment. The assignment was to create a poster for the Charleston Farmers' Market. This is kind of a bittersweet moment for me; this was easily the most fun college course I've ever taken since Don Bluth's. My original sketch idea was a little too elaborate for what I had time for, so I ended up just putting sundry fruits and vegetables around the text to frame it. I took inspiration from both the Charlestown Farmers Market logo and a photograph of the church steeple on their website. In particular, I thought the steeple looked especially picturesque and rustic, so I incorporated it into my design. Many farmers in the Low Country sell chicken and beef that they slaughter themselves on their farm or buy in bulk and re-package on their farm. I shutter when I walk the Farmers Market and see many of these farmers are slaughtering and or packaging your chicken and meat in facilities that do not have a USDA Health Inspector. The USDA Health Inspector is at the slaughter house and reviews practices, ensures cleanliness and the proper handling of the animals. To know if your dinner meal came from a facility that has a USDA inspector, just look for the labels on our beef and chicken packaging. The label will state "U.S. Inspected". Sample photos of our products show the label. At Blue Sky Sunny Day Organic Farm, we do not want to take chances with your families dinner so we spend the extra money to have all of our certified organic chicken and the meat we source be processed at a USDA Inspected facility. Our profits are less but your family is safer.
