Fun Fact Friday! Giraffe tongues are usually black! The darker color is a result of the extra melanin that is present. It helps to prevent sun burns and can protect them. The end of their tongue tends to be black and may be more pink or purple near the top since that portion is not as exposed to the sun. The melanin act as a sort of natural sunscreen. We are excited to share one of our brand new course offerings for next year: Middle & High School Bible! This class is for 7th-12th graders, and you can read the description below: Come enjoy the Word of the Lord with us as we read through the Bible in three years. This class will include reading assignments for each school week, (between ten and fifteen chapters of the Bible per week), a weekly journal assignment, monthly scripture memorization, and three projects per semester. We will begin this year at the beginning, reading Genesis through Deuteronomy by Christmas break with a Genesis project, a Tabernacle project, and a Pentateuch project showcasing what we are learning as we read these beloved historical books. Each class time we will review the reading, have a short devotional, and have a time for prayer requests and prayer. My prayer for this class follows Psalm 119 closely: I pray that we will take heed, not forget, live and keep, and be revived by the Word of the Lord by hiding it in our hearts so that we may have life and be established to trust in God. This is a class for both those who love His word already and those who are intimidated by reading the whole Bible. We will read Genesis through Esther in the 2024-2025 school year, Job through Malachi in the 2025-2026 school year, and Matthew through Revelation in the 2026-2027 school year. We have exciting news about our Elementary Immersive Program next year! We are opening up a second day for elementary school students (k-5th) on Thursdays! This will be a super fun and interacting day of extracurricular activities like theater, music, arts and crafts, science experiments, and more. Students will also have guided study time throughout the day to work on homework with the help of their teacher. This Extracurricular Day is separate from our Elementary Immersive Program, so you can sign up just for one of these or for both of them. It's up to you! You can read a more thorough description of this day on our website under the Extracurricular Day course description. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about it. In addition, due to anticipated growth, we think we will need to offer the Immersive Program on Mondays AND Tuesdays next year. If you apply for an Immersive Program course on the application, you will select a Monday option, and then you will be asked if you'd prefer Tuesday should we open up those sections. It's time for our #weeklywrap up! This week was all about the LOVE! We had such an amazing Valentine's party for all of our kids! We played games like "Cupids Arrow" and "Roll a Fairy Tale"! We worked on fine motor skills by building structures with popsicle sticks and candy hearts! Cookie decorating and making foam roses were definitely some of the favorite activities too. Lots of fun treats were had with our lemonade bar, chocolate dipped strawberries and pretzels, veggie kabobs and so more! Mamas who have a stiring inside of them that is saying.. “What if we homeschooled?” … this is for you. You are feeling called to change things up for your family but you are certainly afraid and nervous. How will you know how to teach them? What about their friends? Where do I even start? ALL of these feelings are very normal. First of all, God made you THEIR mother. You will know your child, you will find the resources to help them. He will guide you and you are certainly not alone. Luckily the homeschool option is becoming VERY common these days, so I can also guarantee you know someone or can find someone locally to help you. As far as the friends go, are you a hermit that never leaves the house? If so yes you might make your kids socially awkward ha! But if you live a life with others, do not worry about the social interaction. Between church, sports teams, co-op options, extra curricular of any kind, they will make friends. Yes you do have to initiate and find what works for your child but there will be a community you can plug into. And to be quite honest, are you more concerned about them being influenced by peers their own age for MORE hours a day than your own influence? Don’t be 😉 Where do I start.. that is the first big question. I am going to suggest that you start to do some research around your local area. Do you want to plug into a co-op, hybrid option? Do you want to do everything at home on your own? Both work depending on your personality as a mom AND the kids needs. I am almost certain there will be a “City Homeschool Group” for wherever you live. Search that. Engage the local moms and just ask what they do so you can explore options. The idea is to create a space where kids are free to create and do their own things. Where they can learn through trial, error and exploration. Tinkering really is playing and inventing, so the space needs to be filled with opportunities to play, invent and launch imaginations into overdrive! Try adding these common items to your tinker corner and watch everyone get to work on their best creations! It's time for a #weeklywrap up, but it's more like a semester wrap up! We want to give a huge shout out to our amazing co-op families on completing our very first semester!
