🔮 Final Major Project 🔮 • 📸 @danielhoxhaphotography 💃🏻 @i_imogen227 @cllavire @sophie__8438 • In my final major project at college, I have decided to go with an idea of melancholic cupids, inspired by @chogiseok bloody rose concept with @le_sserafim . I’ve added my own unique twist to these photographs and i’m trying to show that whatever you are going through, you can break free from it. Trauma is not an easy subject to talk about but with the right direction and being able to find the best healing process for yourself is the best way to move forward in life ❤️🩹. I’ve decided to add the cracks on to the face to show the process that the models are going through and that it is a slow process but eventually they’ll be able to be free, hence the ribbon 🎀. 아트 디렉터 #조기석(@chogiseok)의 시각적 멜랑꼴리 현재 한국에서 가장 활발히 활동하는 아트 디렉터를 소개한다면 이 사람의 이름을 빼놓을 수 없을 것 같습니다. 사진, 그래픽 디자인 등 다양한 비주얼 작업을 진행하는 조기석입니다. 시선을 사로잡는 독보적인 비주얼, 다양한 컬러를 사용하지만 곳곳에 스며든 서정적인 분위기. 한 번 빠지면 헤어 나올 수 없을 것만 같은 그의 작품들을 보노라면 유독 눈에 띄는 소재가 있습니다. 바로 ‘꽃’과 사람의 ‘신체’인데요. 조기석은 보그와의 인터뷰에서 “꽃과 신체는 사람들이 아름답다고 느끼는 것의 표본이라고 생각해요. 그래서 제가 가장 말하고 싶은 대상이기도 하죠.”라고 말했습니다. 아름다움에 대해 말한다는 그의 작업물들은 단순히 비주얼적으로 시선을 사로잡는 것만은 아닙니다. 꽃잎으로 된 눈물을 흘리는 사람, 손가락질 받는 학생. 악마의 뿔을 달고 나비의 날개를 단 사람. 겹겹이 쌓였지만 말로는 표현하기 힘든 인간의 감정과 서사를 비주얼로 드러내는 조기석의 작품들은 사람들로 하여금 어떠한 ‘멜랑꼴리’를 느끼게 합니다. 1992년생인 조기석은 대학 자퇴 후, 현장에서 직접 뛰며 경력을 쌓았습니다. 특히, 젠틀몬스터와 초기부터 작업한 인물 중 하나이기도 한데요. 딘, 오혁, 크러쉬 등 다양한 아티스트의 앨범 커버를 작업하기도 했고 현재는 패션, 음악, 미술 등 다양한 분야에서 사진작가, 아트 디렉터로서의 활동을 이어나가고 있습니다. 그는 2022년 글로벌 패션 업계의 영향력 있는 인물을 선정하는 ‘BoF 500’에 이름을 올렸고, 2023년엔 자신이 이끄는 패션 브랜드 쿠시코크(@kusikohc)를 통해 ‘LVMH 프라이즈’ 준결승에 오르기도 했습니다. 속에 담긴 이야기가 궁금해져 자꾸만 보게 되는 조기석의 세계. 슬픔, 사랑, 분노, 증오 등 여러 감정이 담긴 그의 작품들을 보며 여러분들은 어떤 감정을 느끼셨나요? 📷 @chogiseok
Cho Gi-Seok Artist Cho Gi-Seok, a semifinalist in the 2023 LVMH Prize, launched ‘Kusikohc’: a fashion brand that involves bold silhouettes and experimental details. Using different methods to obtain the visuals he wants, Cho is an all-around artist, pulling from photographers, set designs, and fashion for his works. Cho’s photo shows irony, where he creates a surrealist image that does not exist in this world through very familiar objects. His works for the present and the future are usually divided into two genres: utopia and dystopia, and yet Cho’s work belongs to neither. Rather, the two worlds coexist and cross all boundaries. Cho dismantles and reassembles objects around us, such as bodies, flowers, butterflies, and machines.
