No recap video from the “Neoma & Friends Latinx DJ Night” at Lost Lake lounge. I’m disappointed in myself for not doing that the way I usually do. But, I did “the job” as Hunter called it. I went out to a scene where not one soul knew anything about G.A. Johnson the novelist & Don Gonzoni the guerilla promoter. Which means I went to the regular world, lol. I took these fun outfit pictures to remind myself that my sticking out like a soar thumb can have a purpose. I’m a perfect advertisement. I danced my ass off and most certainly looked like the old fool who didn’t grow up…but @circleswedraw got their merch displayed in plenty of other people’s social media’s. I did the job. Wearing the band’s shirt gives me license to be the person I had always envisioned myself to be. It’s my uniform. I’ve worn a lot of uniforms. The rain coat I’m wearing was issued to me in The United States Marine Corps when I was 17 years old. That was 20 years ago. Shit… The sea captain hat belonged to my uncle Haven who was smothered to death in his sleep by the people who were charged with caring for him. The bell bottoms were a gift from my wife. She thinks I’m cute. I did the job. I slipped my son’s (@whywill.music) idfk CD under a Neoma (@neoma.lun) T-Shirt at her merch table. I did what I do best. I sowed seeds. I represented. I subjected myself to the quizzical looks from a room filled with people much younger than I. I failed to introduce myself to Neoma, though. I’m disappointed in myself. I’ve been a longtime fan. But I’ve seen the way my musicians treat the old guy they didn’t ask to be bothered by. I didn’t want to be “that guy”… But Will said hello and I figured that was good enough. He’s young. He’s a fan of Neoma, too. Unfortunately I didn’t read the event promotions properly, either. I didn’t get to hear her sing live. No, it’s not a real gun. Some of you relaxed reading that. It’s a replica of an 18th-century double-barrel shotgun. This is the latest prop acquisition for my Old West Photo Booth. I take pictures of people at private parties, festivals, and fundraisers. I’m collecting Hollywood-quality props and costumes to offer my clients something extraordinary. Does my taking photos of people dressed like outlaws mean I have an obsession with weapons? Yes. But not in any NRA or #GunControlNow political sense. As a United States Marine, a manic depressive (thriving in therapy), and a politically agnostic individual, my viewpoint on weapons is often conflicted. I’ve been expressing my conflictions and convictions throughout my first five published novels. This portrait is my author photo for my upcoming release, “A More Perfect Union.” It was taken by my youngest son, Russell, whom I’m teaching how to shoot Nikon. Note that I didn’t end that sentence with “rather than” or “instead of” something. Neither is this some type of veiled pro-gun post. I modeled this photo in the fashion my greatest influence would have shown off this shotgun–if it were real. Like Hemingway, I want your attention. I intended for this photo to be seen in a controversial sense because I must be my promoter. You’ll only find my retro-vague* literary fiction is controversial if you are a rabidly devoted member of any politically driven cause. But I won’t reject you if you are a card-carrying member of any party. All I’m asking you to do is imagine what will happen if we allow our society to get just a tad more polarized.
