Ever since I was young, Colorado has always been a mirror, an interior reminder to where I stand in life, and an infinite source of rejuvenation. Kenosha is a song that came about at a brief but pivotal point of transition and change for me when I felt abandoned from all of the ways I once marveled and saw the world as a child. In some ways the song is speaking to Colorado - in all the ways circumstance, time, and constructs of society have kept us apart, changed, and weathered us both. Innately being born to become the traveler I am, this song is a portrait of heart break in feeling undeserving circumstantially or financially incapable of being able to claim it home. After moving close to 20 times in my life, the concept of home for me has always been more tied to nostalgia with family and friends within time and place. I wrote and recorded the song on a morning at @glendonfest in mid December of last year while rain pattered gently outside. In one motion, the first expression of the song is reflected in the recording as it is the first take through the song once the pen left the page. I can say while itโs one of the heaviest songs Iโve written, itโs one of the most simple and honest contemplations Iโve channeled. If so, you'll want to write to your members of Congress and encourage them to support the Living Wage for Musicians Act currently being debated in the House. For better or for worse, streaming services aren't going away - from the consumer's perspective, they are just too convenient and too good of a deal. Fans aren't going to go back to buying CD's or vinyl or even digital downloads, and merch sales aren't realistically going to make up the gap. If we want to be paid our fair share for our recorded music instead of allowing the bulk of that revenue to be funneled upward to executives and other middlemen, this legislation is our best shot. GULCHFEST IS BACK Iโm so stoked for this. About 6-7 years ago my friend Hannah invited me to play a midnight set for a little get together she was throwing called Gulch and I obviously said yes. The stage wasnโt much more than a chair with a microphone at that point, and the audience was about 10 cold hippies in the late September night but it was a great time Iโll never forget! This was also the first time I met the @dreamspacedatabase boys, after they blew me away with their homebrew psychedelic style.
