Second, let me say this is relevant BEYOND romantic partners. This would be helpful to know about your children, as well as your spouse. I felt led to share this because I get a lot of positive feedback about the relationship I have with my husband of 22 years and reading this book taught us how to love each other well. Essentially, you probably have one primary love language (in which you need to feel loved), but most people inadvertently show you love in the way that they themselves want to receive it. My dominant love language is acts of service. So while my husband enjoys spoiling me, he never needs a dime to show me love. That must be why we did so well in the early years! lol I still remember my absolute favorite Mothers Day. We didn’t have much money so the family had to be really creative. He set up a “restaurant and spa” within “a bed and breakfast” in our home and our kids were the servers. Their uniforms were his white t-shirts and I can still see Anna presenting me the “menu” in crayon that listed just one choice for the appetizer, entree and dessert. It was the sweetest thing ever. 💕 Having my family serve me dinner in bed and give me an in-room pedicure was such a coordinated effort of selflessness done just for me which made me feel overwhelmingly loved. It’s a fun fact because people often struggle with what to get me as a gift because I already have everything I want. But acts of service - I will gleefully accept in a heartbeat. What about you? I recall crying once in middle school for getting 99% on an exam because I could have gotten 100% had I paid closer attention to the question. Anybody else? In high school, in addition to being a cheerleading captain and on drill team, track, and choir, I remained on honor roll and graduated a year early. In hindsight, I think this is where my love of cheering people on began. After graduating from the No. 1 HBCU in the country, I went on to earn my juris doctorate. Anybody else? After purchasing my first investment property, obtaining my hotel license and setting up an Airbnb in my 40’s, I went back to college online to earn a Short Term Vacation Rental certification. I have a severe allergy to negativity, gossiping, murmuring and complaining. Anybody else?
