NMCO was approached by Alma D’Arte to create an inclusive and exciting new rebrand for the art-focused charter school and to develop a new and improved website. Identities are a vital representation of culture for any school, and to our knowledge, Alma D’Arte never really had an identity. It was essential to the staff and kids that the brand felt fun, colorful, and exciting. Alma staff valued showcasing inclusivity and diversity as a representation of their students, and what better way to do that than with a wide spectrum of colors. We developed a logo with their primary platypus mascot color, purple, and then incorporated additional colors for each curriculum, such as dance, media, music, and more. NMCO worked in three phases of production—the identity, then the website, and finally, the debut! The rate of female creative directors across the industry rose from 3% in 2008 to 29%. That’s why we’re proud of Paula Scher @scherpaula50, an American graphic designer, painter, and art educator in design. She also served as the first female principal at Pentagram. She is known for her work with various big-name companies and organizations, such as Adobe, Walt Disney Company, Coca-Cola, Tiffany & Co., The New York Times, and more. And Carolyn Davidson, an American graphic designer who was tasked with designing a logo for a new line of running shoes. After drawing out ideas on a piece of tissue paper over a drawing of a shoe, the iconic Nike Swoosh was born, with inspiration from the Greek goddess of victory. In 2021, @lavidaproject partnered with NMCO to craft an identity and logo that pulsates with the vibrancy of their youth-focused community. A couple of years later, we were able to expand on that brand with an official 60s explainer commercial geared to parents and youth alike, Anchoring La Vida Project as THE southern New Mexico youth resource center. To better provide, serve, and educate, NMCO’s web team rose to the challenge, creating a user-friendly interface that effortlessly communicates La Vida Project’s mission and vision— lvp.fyiplusnm.org, which was developed as a subdomain under @fyiplus.nm Subdomains are a great option if you have a sub-program but still want brand recognition for the parent Organization. The NMCO team was excited to create a series of 30-second animations that aimed to elevate the Alamogordo Public Schools. For the APS 2023 Special Election, the Alamogordo Public Schools needed to inform the local Alamogordo community about the G.O. Bondd and HB 33 and SB9 Mill Levies. The final three animations detail what the bond and mill levies were, how they affect the public school system and community, and the implications of voting for or against them. The assets and characters were all developed by NMCO Studio and were packaged into usable graphics that APS can use for future campaigns and messaging. How do you capture an entire city's personality in a brand? This is a question the NMCO design team tackled for the Visit Las Cruces ¡Mira! festival. She has shared her survival story through the news media and lifts the voices of other survivors by creating a comfortable space for them to speak and share their journey from victim to survivor. Angelica has advocated for improved funding and services during the NM Legislative session and has taken part in strategic planning for statewide victim services. Using trauma informed techniques developed through recent studies, she provides victim centered advocacy. She has also helped amplify the voices of BIPOC researchers by helping start a Chicano Journal at NMSU where “The mission of the journal is to publish scholarship and creative works by Chicana, Latina and Indigenous women or scholarship through the feminist perspectives that those communities oer.” Georgina is also part of a book called, American Indian Studies: Native PhD Graduates Gift Their Stories, where she shares advice on navigating college as an Indigenous person. Liz Liano - President, Nami Southern New Mexico, Artist Liz is an advocate for those struggling with mental health conditions, helping to ght the stigma around Hispanics/Latinx suppressing their emotions and not reaching out for help. She regularly hosts poetry and music shows that are themed around mental health and community. She also writes for the magazine, Inuence NM, where she interviews community members and discusses how mental health plays a role in the workplace.
