ANOTHER “HOW TO” VIDEO COMIN’ YOUR WAY! ⁣ This time, it features another favorite @oribe duo: Soft Lacquer and Beach Après! ⁣ My biggest tips for the perfect curls and waves: • PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT - don’t be down on yourself if it takes you a long time to style your hair or if it takes a couple of tries! • ALWAYS CURL AWAY FROM YOUR FACE ALONG THE HAIRLINES - as long as you do that, you can switch off with the direction of the curls throughout the rest of your hair! • Take different size sections for different size and curls - remember, we want this to look effortless so don’t make everything so perfect! • I recommend using an iron that is an inch to an inch a quarter - if you’re not sure what size you should be using, let me know below and I’ll give you my suggestion! • ALWAYS USE HEAT PROTECTANT!!! - I didn’t show it in this video but my favorite heat protectant is EIMI’s Thermal Image. ⁣ You can pick up all of these products (including the Thermal Image) at the salon! I need more blondes! 😍 . Bleach and tones are my favorite thing to do. I consider it to be more of my specialty... I have taken many classes to learn how to perfect it over the years and will continue to do so. New products are constantly coming out to help minimize damage during the bleaching process and to help repair the hair. Yes I love doing blondes and brunettes but there is nothing like a fresh clean blank canvas. . If you’re willing to come in every 6-8 weeks for a touch up (depends on the level of dark or light of your natural) to minimize banding-you are willing to invest in the correct products at home that I recommend to keep your hair healthy and you keep up with hair cuts-you can have this too. . Being this icy platinum blonde is a true investment. When looking for a stylist that will fit you I recommend doing your research to make sure the stylist also specializes in bleach and tones and will be up front with you on maintenance and care and if your hair can handle it or not. Bleaching is a specialty and if not done precisely and correctly your hair will definitely pay for it. It’s like getting surgery, you go to the doctor that specializes in the surgery you need done. Hair is very similar! “Yuki, what is the best curling iron to get?” ⁣ I get asked this question daily from my clients! And to be honest, I understand why! There are so many curling irons out there. How do you know which one do you choose from? ⁣ My personal favorite that I recommend to my clients is by Babyliss. ⁣ The reason why I love it and recommend it is because • durable and lasts a long time • generates even heat • uses ceramic technology which is less damaging • great price for the quality of iron! ⁣ You can get your Babyliss irons from Ulta! A buttery blonde and some iced white money pieces for Jenna! . Let’s talk expectation vs. reality. . Jenna came to me with virgin hair accept for some at home blonde panels she did herself. With her hair being virgin we were able to lift it to blonde in one session because her natural was light enough. Having realistic expectations for wanting to be blonde in one session is more attainable when your hair is it’s natural color. When it’s not it will take multiple sessions if your hair will allow it. It all depends on how you’re hair can handle being bleached and your stylist knowing how to correctly go through the bleaching process. . When it comes to your hair I am going to be upfront and honest on what I feel will be the best route to get you to where you want to be. I want you to have healthy hair with the most minimal amount of damage (bleach comes with the cost of some damage since it’s literally eating your hair) my job is to minimize that damage as best as I can. THAT IS MY GOAL. . If We are going through the blonding process and I don’t think your hair can handle it, I will tell you. Not because I don’t want you to have your goal hair but because I want your hair to be healthy and on your head. I can only do so much and if the hair won’t let me I will not further the process or risk damaging your hair. . When mom needs her hair done you do the thing. . My parents were back in town after they moved up to Washington in June where my mom grew up and my dad met her in the military. Thankful to be born and raised here in Southern California but glad I get to visit the Pacific Northwest more often. We grew up going a couple times a year to visit my moms family so it is like home already. Sad my parents aren’t an hour away anymore but thankful they are healthy and now retired and get to live this second part of their life for themselves. I love you guys so much! . I came across this review a few days ago when I was going through all of my old photos. This was my first review I’ve ever received when I went on the floor 7 years ago. ⁣ I still remember the feeling I got when I read this review. I felt so happy. Proud. Satisfied. Accomplished. ⁣ And I know what some of you guys are thinking. “Ugh I hate Yelp and Yelp can ruin people’s businesses. People on Yelp just want to write angry reviews.” Blah blah blah. ⁣ And I get that. There ARE some Karen’s out there that do get off on writing a nasty, unfair review that can totally negatively affect a business. And it’s absolutely not cool. ⁣ But review sites like Yelp can also help small businesses thrive and explode with a single positive review. And it has done so for myself. I cannot tell you guys how many times a new client sat in my chair because they’ve read about a positive experience someone else had with me and I am so grateful for sites like Yelp because it HAS impacted my business in a positive way. ⁣ So I encourage all of my fellow hairstylists and business owners to do your very best to provide a positive and lasting impression and gently ask your clients and customers to share their experiences with you on Yelp. September 2020 means a fresh start to 2020 for me. ⁣ I’ve gained a ton of new followers during the second shut down which only has me believe that a lot of you are looking for a new start in your 2020 as well. ⁣ So let me re-introduce myself and if you have been in my chair before, I’m so excited to see you back soon. 💛 ⁣ My name is Yuki and I graduated hair school in 2012. ⁣ I didn’t know I wanted to do hair until I took a cosmetology 101 class at my community college. I was actually in school studying child psychology. ⁣ I am a huge concert goer and it’s probably the thing I miss the most in our quarantine lives. The last concert I went to was Tame Impala and it was two days before the mandatory shut down began back in March. 😔 ⁣ Summertime is my jam because I love dresses so much. Oh and because it means it’s baseball season. #GoDodgers ⁣ I’m left-handed...mostly. With everyone coming back in and having inches of roots I just want to let you know it is going to be a process to get your hair back to where it was. It’s not just a normal touch up for most people right now. It’s all color correcting work to make sure we can have an even blended canvas and then go from there. LA COUNTY SALONS MAY NOW REOPEN! oh. AND I MOVED SALONS! 🎉 ⁣ This last six months have been absolutely bonkers. Some days, I didn’t know which way was up and which way was down. But I wasn’t going to walk out of 2020 without some sort of an accomplishment or a moment where I thought to myself “Wow! I did this FOR ME.” ⁣ So I am excited to announce that I will now be servicing all of my guests at The Social Parlour in Studio City! 💕 ⁣ I knew even before the pandemic that I was itching for a new start and to make some changes in my business. What I didn’t know was that TIMING would be on my side and the series of events that unfolded on Wednesday (first with the announcement that LA salons may now reopen!) led me straight to this decision. I manifested this moment and I’m ready to take it on! ⁣ As I mentioned above, I was ready to make some changes to my business. If you received my email yesterday, you know that I have now changed my pricing system and will now be charging an hourly rate across the board. I wanted you all to be able to pay for my TIME. I value my time as much as I value yours and this way, it is a mutual understanding of what you are exactly paying for rather than charging you for a service and technique you may not understand. I didn’t want to have to think about how much more I should charge for someone who has thick hair or how much less for someone with finer hair. What a 🎢 ROLLER COASTER🎢 of a ride the last few days have been! ⁣ First Gavin Newsom says all CA hair salons can work inside but then the LA County Health Board says NO to working indoors to LA county. 🤬 Hairstylists and salon owners in LA were soooo excited and were on a HIGH, only to have our high come crashing down hours later. ⁣ How is it fair that all other counties around us can work indoors but we can’t? Don’t they realize how easy it is for people to drive to another county to A) “cheat” on their stylist to take away business from LA stylists & B) “spread” COVID to another county since people are now getting desperate to get their hair done anywhere (and no, I do NOT think that salons are spreading COVID but my point is that their point doesn’t make sense). ⁣ But ANYWAYS...the point of this all is to say that I have a plan B and I’ll be emailing everyone tomorrow. Hi!!!! Went off the grid for a bit and have been focusing on healing mentally, emotionally and processing my life. Spent the last 5 days camping in Mammoth & Tahoe. It was what I needed to get away and be in nature for some soul care. . Lake Tahoe was beautiful. The water was unreal! I haven’t camped in about 10 years but we did it a lot growing up! With everything going on the last week, I decided to pack my bags and head down to SD for a few days to spend time with family. I really thought this time away would help me recharge and reset my mind.⠀ ⠀ Unfortunately, it did not.⠀ ⠀ I couldn’t stop thinking about our current state of our industry, the fact that my unemployment has officially ended (I’m crossing my fingers that I can restart the application process again), and honestly, just worrying about how many clients I may potentially lose during this second shut down.⠀ ⠀ And if I can be 100% transparent, I REALLY worry about/for my clients.⠀ ⠀ How is it fair that this pandemic has me worrying about where my clients will get their hair done since I refuse to work outside? Will they do their hair at home? Find another stylist that is willing to (illegally) make house calls? And then on top of that, I’m angry at our entire system (from the very top of the chain). How are they cutting off our extra $600/week while we are still in a pandemic and cannot fully return to work?⠀ ⠀ I saw 41 clients while I was back at work for a very short amount of time and not one person contracted COVID-19 through the salon.⠀ ⠀ And don’t get me wrong. I KNOW that COVID-19 is a real thing. Too many innocent lives have been taken away from this horrible virus. THAT IS NOT THE QUESTION.⠀ ⠀ But whether you’re a stylist or a client, I know you haven’t been living under a rock. I know that everyone is aware of how hard the CA STATE BOARD OF BARBERING AND COSMETOLOGY and OUR GOVERNMENT has slapped us in our faces.⠀ ⠀ How dare they tell us that our salons are dirtier than grocery stores and restaurants? We spent 1600 hours in beauty school learning how to properly sanitize and disinfect to protect us from viruses and pathogens.⠀ ⠀ I AM CERTIFIED FROM THE STATE OF CA. California said to me that I am capable of properly sanitizing and disinfecting. — And now, they are telling me that it was all a lie and that in fact, their certification tests (both practical and written tests) are all a big LIE.⠀ ⠀ I’m not going to fool anyone. With playing salon tag before quarantine to having to wait in between quarantine I finally was able to blonde Hannah up and blend her natural! She has the thickest, prettiest hair & pretty sure we used 1million foils for those baby lights 🤣 But totally worth it! . I hope everyone is taking care of themselves. I’m frustrated with close down 2.0 BUT I think I personally I needed it again with all the life that personally happened to me the last few months. I think it’s time to actual go through the steps of processing it all and letting me feel. . What a season of life it has been. Summer is here babes! How are you protecting your hair from sun exposure? How many of you have no idea what i’m talking about? 🙋🏻‍♀️⠀ ⠀ This always blows my clients mind when I first let her know about the damaging effects that the sun can do to our hair because we weren’t really taught that!⠀ ⠀ Just like our skin, we should be using UVA and UVB protection on our hair. The sun strips out your beautiful toners and will turn your hair brassy very quickly. And did you know that when you sweat, that also turns your hair “yellow?” For your beautiful blondes, you should absolutely be using a purple shampoo and/or conditioner.⠀ ⠀ My favorite sun protection product is the entire Solaire line from Rene Furterer. And my favorite purple shampoo is System Professional’s Silver Shampoo!⠀ ⠀ It’s sooo important to take the proper steps to keep your color looking FAB during the summer. What is one thing you never thought you would appreciate as much as you do now that things are slowly opening back up and why?⠀ ⠀ For me, it’s just being able to be OUTSIDE because I was starting to get a little cabin fever in my apartment!⠀ ⠀ It’s been so nice being able to go hiking and exploring the outdoors. Before the pandemic, I definitely took the outdoors for granted. I’m absolutely falling in love with hiking and breathing in the fresh air without my mask on (when NO ONE is around me, of course). ⠀ ⠀ Aside from hiking and going to work, I’m pretty much still keeping to myself. I can’t wait for all of this to be over so I can go to a concert or a music festival though. But we all know that probably won’t happen until next year...unless I go to a drive-up concert (and I hear these things are becoming a thing!).⠀ ⠀ What are you currently enjoying and what are you looking forward to? SO. Masks. 😷 Yes, I’m going to go there.⠀ ⠀ Here’s the thing: Just wear one. The end.⠀ ⠀ But apparently it doesn’t end there.⠀ ⠀ Yes, they can be uncomfortable. Yes, they can give you acne. Yes, they can sometimes hurt your ears or your cheeks.⠀ ⠀ But they can also SAVE LIVES AND STOP THE SPREADING.⠀ ⠀ And if you don’t believe that they do, STILL WEAR ONE. If it’s not for yourself or your loved ones, wear one for my clients like Kannitha here. She is a nurse at UCLA and she and her coworkers have to wear masks 12 hours A DAY. They are over the spreading of COVID and the mandatory masks, JUST LIKE THE REST OF US, but if we don’t get our ish together, they (and us) will never get the okay to stop wearing masks.⠀ ⠀ Numbers don’t lie. The cases are increasing. And YES, the media doesn’t share the survival rate but so? What about the “small” percentage of people that ARE dying or suffering from COVID? Even for those who have “survived” COVID, do you know what the long-term effects are after you get COVID and what it can PERMANENTLY do to your lungs??? My guess is probably not.⠀ ⠀ It breaks my heart to see LA (and the rest of the US) go BACKWARDS right now. !! Fresh hair post quarantine!! . Wow what an amazing first week. I’m so happy to be back behind the chair doing what I love with a supportive, amazing clientele. I do what I do because I love the relationships I build with each of you and the hair magic we create. It’s truly special & you make my job so much fun . . Let’s be honest. Not working for 3 months definitely had me feeling like it was my first day starting at the salon. I had butterflies and was full of so many different feelings. My body is having to relearn what it feels like to stand for 8 hours a day again. OH MAN am I sore! Lol. . I can’t wait to continue the post quarantine hair makeovers! .
