Hi let me introduce you all to the team behind Pawpins Petsitting. I realized I haven’t done this yet. I’m Maya Gopalakrishnan- better known to some of your pets as Maya Poppin- hence the name of my company. Pawpins Petsitting started in 2023, but the account has been around since my hobby sitting days. I started dog walking and pet sitting in 2021 after I got rejected from adopting a Doberman Pinscher for not having had the space or breed experience- so I set out to remedy that by doing working with animals. It mended my broken heart but it also opened my world to a passion for animal welfare. I poured everything I had into my new job and pet sitter was not just a title I wore proudly, it was a lifestyle I adopted. I ate, slept and breathed pets- much to the chagrin of my doctor who had to prescribe me stronger allergy and asthma medications 😬. I was born in India, and grew up in suburban New Jersey. When I’m not with clients, I’m walking my own dog, playing and cuddling with my cat. I also paint, draw and sculpt when I have the free time. I also like to read sci-fi books. I have a marvelous dog named Loki even though I’m a DC girlie. The Flash is my favorite comic book hero ever. I also love Anime and Medical dramas like Grey’s Anatomy. I also have a cat named Zola. She’s a 9 year old bengal cat. Loki is our Chief Correspondence Officer- he’s in charge of communication. He reads his Pmails during our neighborhood walks. Zola is our Chief Scheduling Officer. She ensures I spend quality time with my clients pets and come home in time to be with my own fur babies. I have a few new clients that I started working with this week and I was lucky enough to get greeted with happy wiggle bottoms, wriggly tails and lots of puppy kisses. A tick in time saves nine. It’s April and that means it’s tick season. I found a little hitchhiker on my seasoned hiker husky today and luckily the tiny tickster hadn’t found his way in deeper into Loki’s luxurious fur. The tiny tick was still surfing the surface and I was able to take care of it immediately. Loki gets a monthly flea, tick and heart worm preventative, but still I take the time to check and see if he’s made any new tiny friends along the way after a hike in the woods. Walter was so happy to show off (not) his flowers 🌼🪻on yesterday’s walk! ✨one v proud boi✨ Spring is springing here in Denver and that means several things! 1️⃣ Allergies // Just like humans, dogs have seasonal allergies caused by pollen, mold or dust that circulates in the air. Symptoms may include dry and itchy skin, compulsive paw licking, red or inflamed skin or ear infections. Some things that may help: fish oils or coconut oil, allergy chews, medicated shampoos as well as grooming your pets regularly and having an air purifier at home (consult with your vet on the best option for your pets!) 2️⃣ Toxic plants & flowers // As flowers start to bloom, be sure your pets do not ingest any flowers on your walks and be aware of what plants you have at home! Some flowers I’m starting to see around my neighborhood that are toxic/poisonous include cherry blossoms, tulips and hyacinths. Like to have a fresh bouquet at home? Lilies are highly toxic to cats and can cause kidney failure! And for all my Coloradans- marijuana can result in depression of the nervous system as well as vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, seizures and increased heart rate. Please don’t get your pets high! 3️⃣ Warmer days // Temperatures in the 60s and 70s don’t have any risk to dogs. As we get into the 80s and 90s, it’s time to start limiting outside time. The ground will always be hotter than you think- keep your pets paws safe! Be sure to have water on you, stick to grassy or shaded areas, and never leave your pup in the car! - As pet care professionals, it is our job to be well-educated on these things.
