My next design-a-day challenge based on fake creative briefs is another meaningful one for me. When I was in college, my dream and recurring fantasy was to open a campus coffee shop called Philosopher’s Cafe. I had this complete vision for it, including a fantastic themed menu. It’s been years since I thought of it, but this design practice brought it back to me, and I decided to bring it to life — at least conceptually. I’ll be revisiting this one a lot, as I have so many ideas! I started with the logo, and now I really need this to be a reality! The “Camus Croissant” embraces the absurd, pairing unexpected flavors in a deliciously existential pastry. My next design-a-day challenge based on fake creative briefs is courtesy of my dear friend @kellyemintzer who challenged me to design a flyer for a “horror hot dog eating contest”. Challenge accepted! I turned it into a Halloween party, costume contest, and hot dog eating contest. My goal was to create something that would appeal to horror fans but still be broad enough to attract a wide audience. I wanted it to have a bit of a retro feel and play up the campy, unusual, fun aspect of the hot dog eating contest while still maintaining the Halloween aesthetic. How did I do? My next design-a-day challenge based on fake creative briefs is a suggestion from my friend @redcrow88 who suggested I make a movie poster for a film from my EFFED extreme horror film festival. Today’s prompt was inspired by my love for a lovely little small business called PSEUDO LUDO, a New Jersey/New York based company run by an extraordinary married couple of artists who make cool stuff for lovers of movies, horror, and pop culture. I love everything they do and was inspired to reimagine their logo. The owners also happen to be two of my favorite people in the world, so this was really a labor of love. Since I’ve started a UX Design Bootcamp through @generalassembly I’ve decided to, through the suggestion of an instructor, start a daily design challenge. Challenge 1: design a Login/Signup page. I chose an app-based one and got some “prompt” ideas from my instructor. He said use one, two, or all three of these nouns in the design: avocado, opposition, and dew. I did all three. Presenting: AVOCA Dew or Don’t. The all-new debating game.
